Beer Archa was first launched in July 2004 to expand the market share, particularly in the standard and premium product groups, and to respond to increasing demands from a new generation of beer drinkers who prefer smooth beer with lower alcohol content. Beer Archa thus serves as another alternative for beer drinkers.

Another lovely Asian piss lager, but this one surprisingly a bit more full. Most of the time you’ll see it labeled as ’Archer’ though if you’re trying to look for it these days.

Bottle. Christmas gift from my Thai sister in law. Pours a clear pale straw yellow body with a small fizzy white head. The nose is just a whole lot of corn and wet soggy grain, not exactly enticing. The flavor is pretty well about what was expected. It’s thin and watery with no real perceptible barley grain, this tastes like a mix of corn and rice, with maybe a bit of barley. No hint of hops at all. Light bodied and very fizzy with a lingering finish. Not the best beer, but I suppose if I were having this in the heat of Thailand I could have a few of these.

Clear golden beer small head, who dissipate very fast. Low carbonation. Malt aromas like bread are felt, but they are not really too strong, some yeast notes are also perceived. The body is light and the taste is soft with a slight bitterness at the end, but with some salty unpleasant flavor.

Poured from a can while in Thailand. Aroma is sweet with medium light grain and corn notes. A light floral hop aroma. No diacetyl or sulfur but some floral esters. Pours a very clear pale yellow gold with a medium sized, moderately thick white head with really good retention. Light lacing and no legs. Flavor has a sweet, pilsner malt graininess and hints of corn. Some floral hop character, light but surprisingly noticeable. Low bitterness compared to the hop flavor. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low to no alcohol warmth. Overall one of the best lagers I have ha in Thailand. It still has all the typical malt characteristics of a light lager, but the hop character is more noticeable than I expected. It is also a clean beer without diacetyl or sulfur. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330 ml can at abv 5.0% bought at Soho Wines & Spirits in SoHo, Central.

Piss pale golden yellow colour; One quarter finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 10 seconds; Very small sticky lacing and slight carbonation; Faint smell of malt, with hint of grains, very light syrup, light apple juices and notes of wet paper; Light sweet taste of malt hint, with light grains, very light wet cardboard, soggy light bread, hint of lemon and faint grass; Light body, watery palate; Mouth feel is close to beer-water, malt taste is barely detectable, almost zero grain taste, with customary sugar, bread, lemon taste etc. all reduced to just notes or traces. Zzzzzzzzzz… Hoppiness is no nose, hint of lemon and grass in taste. No bitterness, just water finish; Wet after taste, very easy to mouth.

Comments: A cross between Milwaukee Best Premium and crappy Happoshu, this is beer-water at its best: clean, no foul taste, barely any sweetness, all at the expense of almost no aroma, no malt, and almost no taste. Water is a better alternative than this pointless exercise.

Sampled while in Thailand. A fair traditional warm climate beer. Very carbonated and only good when served ice cold. No hops and decent malts.

330ml can from 7-11 @ Koh Lipe, Thailand. Foam disappears really fast, looks like no acids. Cheapest beer at 7-11 if don’t count Siamsoto. Mild smell and taste.

640ml bottle on Koh Lanta from a minimart (40 Baht):
Light & sweet with some lively adjuncts & grassy hops. Some faint malts as well, a little barely and a touch of skunk towards the end.
Straw coloured with a 1cm, bubbly white head that holds reasonably well.
Bitter adjuncts and some skunk kick things off, followed by a little citrus and some light, lager malts. A bland, mellow taste that is a run-of-the-mill macro lager.
Light bodied & with lively carbonation & a semi-sweet palate. Nothing really out of the ordinary or worthy of note here I’m afraid.

This one wasn’t all that bad a beer for a Thai pale lager. Not as good as Singha or Chang but a lot better than some of the crap out there.

500ml can, 5.4% abv. Asia pale lager style, smooth watery mouthfeel. Some mild bitternes is detectable but also metallic notes and cardbox. Avoid this.
