First tasted this at the Quadrat, Brighton in June 1993. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear dark copper red in colour with a creamy thick off white head. Strong fruity notes of redcurrant fruit in the long aroma. Resiny mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a full robust malty whack in the mouth. Juicy spangle fruit notes with bramble, blackcurrants and blueberries in there. A slight hint of hop resins in the short aftertaste but sweetness returns in the warming and alcoholic finish. Fantastic English barley wine this and sadly missed.

Red and purple in colour. This has a sweet malty and fruity aroma. Flavours are smooth, malty with winter fruits. Quite vineous really. Very smooth and velvety on the palate. Has a nice dryness on the finish along with some smokiness. A good strong beer.
