2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 duff (5483) - St, Margarets, - DEC 19, 2004
Cask@The Red Lion, Isleworth, London. On the thin side for a stout. Light acidic ashy roastyness, with some slight acidity towards the end. Finishes short. A dull stout.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - SEP 29, 2011
First tasted this in the Pot Still, Glasgow in January 2005. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a thin creamy buff head. Roast malt lingers in the long aroma. Thin mouthfeel and fantastic lacing. Dark malts give a rich stout background with black malt evident in the burnt toast initial notes. Roasted malt flavour comes through with burnt toffee notes and bitter chocolate. Dry hop resins give a spicy aftertaste and this leads to a dry leather and walnut finish. A cracking stout from the Archers portfolio. Well recommended.

Cask gravity at Red Lion, Snargate. Probably the best Archers beer I’ve had. So roasted it almost tore my tongue off at the end. Good fullness.

Cask conditioned at the Smithfield, Derby. Black (= very dark ruby) colour, low head. Prune / plum aroma. Flavour is quite fruity for a stout, but the coffee notes are there too. Decent.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 chriso (7063) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 2, 2005
Very deep ruby colour - not quite black and not quit opaque. No carbonation whatsoever. Coffee aroma and licorice flavour. Quite dry, with some woody notes. Quite nice, but a bit thin. Cask (handpump), Red Lion, Isleworth.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 SilkTork (4736) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - JAN 5, 2004
UPDATED: DEC 13, 2004 Jan, 2004:The Claret - a Freehouse, near Croyden. Black with scarlet fringe - dirty cream loose assorted bubble crescent. Roasty flavours, burnt coffee and toasted rasins. Thin to medium bodied. There is a hint of berry fruit in here - possibly wild raspberry - but the coffee flavour dominates. The coffee becomes softer and creamier as drink progreses, lingering pleasantly in the finish. Coffee aroma. Improves considerably as the drink settles in the mouth. [3.6]
Dec, 2004: JDW, Rochester Smooth, dark and slightly roasty with an overall gentle sweetness but a nasty burnt plastic flavour and an unpleasant greasy quality. Tastes like a stout made with chemicals and cheap ingredients. A big difference between this and the beer I had in January. [2.2]
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 RichardGretton (3756) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - AUG 13, 2003
Solid stout appearance with a lightly burn't hopped aroma and a dryly hopped flavour with a very bitter finish. A good dry stout.
