On tap at a restaurant in Regensburg, Germany. Very subdued. Less bitter, and less aromatically complex. Aroma mostly of caramel malt, not so much as a hint of roast. Aroma suggests sourness, but little sourness in the flavor. Not too heavy, which I like. Very weak hop presence. Enjoyable, but probably among the least favorite of the Dunkels I sampled on my recent trip to Germany.

500ml bottle. Clear ruby red glimmering dark brown colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, decently lacing, beige head. Slightly grainy aroma, hints of red berries, a salient red currant note, maybe a touch of cherry, cautious herbal hoppy overtones with a touch of the berries’ shrubs. Taste is minimally metallic, fruity, hints of cherries and red berries, subtle sweetness. Fruity sweetness has a minimally artificial touch of fruit gums. Slightly light bodied.

CacheManyHose (235) - HONG KONG - JUL 16, 2014
Draught at King Ludvig. Pours a translucent reddish cola colour with watery white legs and head. Like most dunkels I've tried, has a faint nose and tastes of crisp malt - more nutty and sweet than roasted. Pleasant but not much else. Almost no hop and no fruitiness. Body is slick and has some carbonation.
