Bottle from Venerables. Dark brown colour, tan head. Nose is grainy and bready, bit of candy sugar and caramel. Flavour is bready, caramel malts, slight toastiness. Easy drinkable. Slightly dry and slightly sweet finish.

RLT. It’s a dark brown beer with a red hue and a golden, creamy head. The aroma has notes roasted malt, caramel, and light licorice. The flavor is light to moderately sweet with the same notes as the aroma, and the finish is dry. OK, but not mind blowing.

Koelschtrinker (7034) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUL 8, 2011
Test vom 18.11.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,7,6,4,12,5 - 6,05

American version. A clear deep red with a thin white head. Musty lager scent. Taste is lightly roased malts and hops.

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine Triangle Plaza, Raleigh, NC. This is the "dark lager" label. Pours a clear dark brown color with a large frothy offwhite head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of dark lightly roasted malts along with faint molasses and raisins. Taste is raisins, brown sugar and roasted malts. Medium bodied.

On tap at Raleigh WBF as "dark lager". Pours a deep, muddy brown with a thin, off-white head. Good lacing. Aroma is candied fruits, caramel, brown sugar. Taste is mostly soy sauce, pumpernickel bread, with toasted caramel. Strange combination. Not sure if I enjoyed this.

bubbleflubber (1228) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - FEB 20, 2009
On tap as "Dark Lager"... pors deep mahogany with a thin eggshell ring. Some malty sours to the nose. Sweet malt taste, semi-thin, that introduces some doughy notes to the mid-palate and finish. Not overtly complex, and somewhat watery. ’Nuff said.

beeR (60) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 29, 2008
50 cl bottle. Dark amber-copper beer, with a creamy and beig head, not lasting. Good but not persistet aroma, roasty, caramel sweetness and a little bit of coffee. Unsatisfying flavor because of a light body and an important carbonation that overwhelmes the malty sweetness; mix of bitter and sour finish.

PorterPounder (4101) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUN 17, 2008
Columbia, SC - Total Wines - 12 oz bottle - labeled as "Dark Lager Beer". Dark chestnut colored pour, fluffy off white head, good bubble action. Downright skunky aroma with some earthy notes to redeem it a tad. Flavor has some caramel notes, some baked brown bread and a bit of nuttiness. Clean, even mouthfeel. Run of the mill, but decent.
