Late December, 2012. 12oz bottle from HyVee Milan, I believe. My 10th California Common rating! Clear orange pour with a small khaki head. The aroma shows light biscuit, caramel, and a hint of something floral/earthy - the hops, I’m assuming. The flavor is much the same, big biscuit and caramel with a touch of earthy hop. Not bad.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a dark, slightly cloudy amber with almost no head. Aroma of caramel malt and a good bit of dank herbal hops with a little medicated band-aid. Taste is light bitter. Band-aids, herbal and pine hops with a somewhat weak malt backbone. Medium bodied with a slick texture. Lively carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, pretty good. Probably one of the most flavorful steam beers I’ve had.

Pour is translucent amber with a frothy head that disippates very slowly. Aroma is nutty caramel malt and piney hops with just a touch of diacetyl. A lot of carbonation in this beer. Piney hops, sweet roasty malt, a little butterscotch, a hint of alcohol, and a dry and lingering bitterness in the finish. This was ok, definitely not terrible, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it.

A mild beer. Creamy mouthfeel with hardly any aroma. Flavor or bread, bland caramel, and some butter. Unoffensive and forgettable.

Bottle from Friar Tuck in Peoria, IL. Clear orange-amber pour with a small white head. Mild caramel malt and pine hop. Palate is a bit thin. Decent carbonation zing, but pretty bland overall.

Nice orange hue. Aroma is spicy, with pinecones and grain. This has a real nice flavor, with more pine hops and spice with caramel malt and maybe some orange peel at the very end. Mouthfeel is great. This worked well for me, spicy, sweet, citrus, etc all coming together in a very smooth drinkable ale. Well done.

Pretty brown bronze color with a nice roasted scent. Unfortunately, the taste didn’t stand up to the smell and look of the beer. Smooth, but not really much of a flavor. Taste was just pale and light. Not bad, but just didn’t stand up to what I had expected...Definitely a decent beer, but nothing special

Bottle - small foamy head, dark orange color, very malty aroma and flavor, some roasty notes at the end

12 oz. bottle pours a clear reddish amber with a frothy off-white head that lingers and creates some lacing. Not much to smell except for some floral hops. Aroma has noticeable caramel malts, citrus hops and grains. Taste malty sweet at first before the hops kick in. The long dry finish made me want to drink more to experience the sweetness again. Body is medium but almost flat. Overall quite enjoyable and better than expected.
