3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 10, 2013 355ml bottle.
It pours a clear amberish orange with a nice foamy off-white head.
The smell is decent. Sweeter than a typical example but nice. Some toasted malts and a pinch of hops.
The flavor is nice. Sweetness again comes though but with a nice tastiness and nuttiness. For an American brewer this is pretty competent.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour on tap, clear orange-red pour with white head, aroma brought dough, caramel, bread, some grass, spice, touch of herbal notes into a hint of yeasty spice, some earthy tones. Taste is a mix of dough, slight watery bread, hints of caramel into some grass, spice, finishing fairly clean, slight hint of sweetness.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle from the Binnys Singles Rack (Naperville, IL). Pours a richer copper amber hue. Healthy glow with mellow haze. Sunset striking fiery elements glow with a small offwhite head that dies to a tiny ring. Aromas are touches bready malts, biscuits, and gentle toast. A bit of dry mellow grassy and floral hops, earthy with a touch of stale grain. Kiss of sweetness. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied offering a firm dryness up front, gentle yeast, bit of spice with earthy dry hops. Middle brings the toast and bready malts, some mellow touches of sweeter more girthy biscuit, bready malts, pale grains, and gentle toast. Fairly light and sessionable, with dryness lingering into the backend, a firm earthy and grassy dry hopping. Florals, gentle spice and a bit of sweetness gives some hold on the palate. Ok overall, kinda surprised me. A touch of metallic in the middle and into the backend. Touch of carmelization. Not bad. Some sweetness jabs at times but overall the balance is there, a firm hopping, good drinker. Dryness, spice, toast. Marzen offers some good value here.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tallahassee, Fl. - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy medium copper with soft light off-white head that leaves just a trace of lacing. Aroma has some light cake mix accents, a touch of toffee. Flavor is similarly sweet with some caramel accents, a bit of date-like fruity sweetness and some raw cake mix sweetness. Mouthfeel has a decent thickness to it. Much better than expected,

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
No bar code on the bottle. A clandestine beer? Whate’er...Nice pour, a deep amber body with a dense, sustained ecru head. It has a really fresh white-bread-topped-with-gooey-caramel aroma that I (a devout hop-head) can enjoy. Just a hint of florals in there. The flavor is a subdued version of the aroma, tasty, but a tad too light. No hops in taste or bitterness. The finish is rather abrupt. Not a bad brew, but the intensity of the flavor was less than what the aroma had promised.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Found this in a bottle at Chicago Midway. A rich malty nose is biscuits. Those are tasted, too. This is a full bodied lager that is copper in hue with a beige head. Soft fruit is tasted and hops are very light. A bit of bitterness is felt deep in the throat. Flavor fades a bit and although it is nice things are never big. This was a nice surprise.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clumsy label, clear medium tea-brown, quickly dissipating oatmeal colored head. Grainy-sweet malty aroma with notes of molasses. Sweet, low bittering, husky, dark syrup tones. Medium heavy body. Grainy finish. ABC Liquors, Betton.

12oz bottle. Looks light. Aroma of toasted and caramel malts with a little floral hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. A decent beer for the style.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Aroma is malts, kind of off though. The flavor is similar to the aroma, with an almost artificial flavor to it. Not good.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Ballydoyle, Downers Grove. Once again, I’m impressed by the quality of the beers Argus makes their first time on tap. Maybe being fresh from a local brewer and served at a place that takes care of their beer has something to do with it, but this is as good as an Oktoberfest can get. Only the RB credo of only giving big ratings to barley wines and impy stouts keeps me from rating this higher. Admittedly, the smell is just middlin’, a nice maltiness with sweet notes, but not much more. In a thistle pint, it’s golden brown, like autumn leaves; very clear, with a good layer of pillowy foam atop. Taste is just what a malty German beer should be. Rich and sweet, but not overly roasted or sugary, just a light caramel touch, Noble hops that just add some balance at the start, then become a bit spicy and peppery further down. Enough carbonation to keep you from swilling it, and to deliver more flavor. Clean, smooth lager finish. Only surprise was a slight estery banana burp five minutes later. I’m admittedly biased because I was first to enter this brewer on RB, but they’ve all been very good.
