3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Pawola22 (2198) - Chicago, USA - OCT 30, 2011
12oz bottle from Armanetti’s on Lincoln Ave in Chicago. Pours a cloudy, deeper copper colored body with a big, frothy, three finger-width, light tan head that collapses slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is bigger florals, grapefruit citrus, biscuity caramels and toffee with a moderate sweetness. A bit of crystal malt in there too. Flavor is similar. Florals, biscuity caramel, toffee, and grapefruit citrus up front. A light grass comes in before this finishes dry with a light bitterness and a light bready, toffee sweetness. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a light-medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, an okay IPA. Not overly sweet, but a distinct toffee maltiness with some bread balanced well with an interesting hop mixture. Lots of florals with a touch of grass, but nothing too interesting. This was easy drinking and enjoyable, but unremarkable.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 rumproasts (178) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAY 25, 2012
red amber with small head. unique looking, bur i don’t really like the hop mixture they’ve chosen, just not very flavorful. subpar IPA.
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 kaser (237) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 8, 2012
This beer sucks. Red pour with floating things. Smells ok. Not a big Dan of this one. Average at best
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 BBB63 (5023) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAR 15, 2012
Bottle and served in GI IPA tulip: Well it pours much darker (near coppery crimson) than expected which a quickly fading head and almost no lace. Sorry that is NOT what an IPA should look like, perhaps a hoppy amber ale instead? The aroma indeed comes off with crystal/caramel notes along with some soapy and band-aid note which hurts the fruity and herbal hop esters. Plenty of Diacetyl butterscotch overtones as well. The taste is a tad better with a metallic and abrasive tea-baggy bitterness over the too sweet malts. This simply does not cut it, far too sweet and far too tannic. Even as a hoppy Amber Ale, it is not all that good (2.0) . This needs some serious tweaking...
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 frpilz (45) - Illinois, USA - FEB 27, 2012
Nice color, after that it went downhill. Not balanced , tamarind bitterness does not have enough malty creaminess to balance out. No great finish or complexity, certainly not horrid, but would best utilized to marinate a flank steak or beef brisket for bbq.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 crossovert (2774) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 26, 2012
Really dark IPA in color. The hops are secondary to the malt, The flavor isn’t the greatest, hoppy or not.
2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 CanIHave4Beers (2094) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - FEB 1, 2012
Pours a deep copper color with a small but well retained head.
The aroma is more caramel then hops really & the hop character comes across as soapy & kind of fruity. The aroma displays some alcohol.
The flavor is spicy and a little bit on the soapy side. This beer is mildly bitter and only slightly sweet; given the caramel in the aroma I expected it to be much much sweeter. Like the aroma the alcohol shows it’s self in an unexpected and odd way in the flavor.
This is not particularly bad beer, nor is it unpleasant... but nothing really sticks out as particularly wonderful about it either.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Frank (2054) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 10, 2012
This is on the light side for an IPA these days but it drinks a bit bigger than it’s 5.8% ABV indicates. It’s also on the dark side--a deep, clear copper color beneath it’s scant white head. Piney and resinous flavors are thickened by sticky sweet malts, leading to a full-bodied and slightly sluggish mouthfeel. There is something strange going on here too which I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s not quite metallic and not quite astringent. It’s not bad but something is definitely slightly awry. Not a terrible beer by any means but it doesn’t really satisfy on any level either.
1.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 Vir4030 (390) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 29, 2011
Pours a lot darker than I would expect from an IPA. A medium-to-light amber, clear, with a thin head. Medium-bodied aroma, slight bit of alcohol and roasted malts. Flavor is watery, harsh, roasted, and doesn’t have the distinctive bitterness that I expect from an IPA. It has this harsh roasted bitterness instead, and I do not like it.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Tmoney99 (7294) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 10, 2011
Draft. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate earthy resin hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate smooth bitter flavor with a moderate bitterswwet finish of medium duration.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Gription79 (762) - Bountiful, Utah, USA - DEC 8, 2011
12 oz bottle.
Aroma: caramel,floral, hint of pine
Appearance: Deep amber almost ruby, no head
Taste: caramel, toffee, floral/pine hops
Palate: medium bodied, a touch syrupy
Overall: I feel that the caramel sweetness really detracts from this beer, maybe a little fresher or on draft would help it out. meh
