Russian Imperial Stout made with smoked jalapeños from McClendon Select and smoked over Arizona mesquite wood, all aged on cocoa nibs (Papa New Guinea and Belize). Well, well. What sits in front of you, this thick, monstrous, viscous … this is the Russian Imperial Stout. This is the crème de la crème of the beer world. The empress of Russia couldn’t get enough of it. This being the US of freaking A makes this the free world’s style, thus, the American Presidential nomenclature. Catherine the Great would have sat in the Hermitage and asked why jalapeños smoked over Arizona mesquite were used. We say this to CTG: This is ’Merica and this is Wilderness. This is OUR stout. Enjoy — we poured our hearts and souls into this one!

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2014 Jet black with a light brown head. Wow. This is incredible. The nose is incredible. A mix of chocolate, smoked jalapeños, rich roasted malt, incredible cocoa nibs...and the flavor. Well the 11% is hidden incredibly well. The flavor is just the right amount of sweetness and roast. Tons of cocoa, molasses notes, just a perfect amount of smoke...an amazing stout.

On draft. Black with one finger beige head. Cocoa, vanilla and coffee bean aroma. Some smokiness and kick added from the jalapeños on top of the coffee. A very good stout with a nice little kick.

draft, black dark pour. Not very roasty, slightly boozy and a little boring to me, i wasnt really getting the smoky or spicey flavors. This was similar to me as nebco’s imperial stout trooper. Just a sweeter thick imperial stout.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2015 Draft at brewpub. Black with slight beige head. Uh wow. Sweet chocolate. Cocoa. Caramel. Some coffee. Some chilli with the slightest heat. Delicious. Semi dry. Not overly bitter or sweet or roasted. Ultra smooth..unbelievabley. Creamy. Superb balance. Medium plus body. No booze. This is just fantastic! 2015 batch is even better. Score upped a bit more even. This has what I love in an imperial stout.

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. Looks quite deep and dark in the glass this but it has a brown shimmer and a lacing beige top. Mildly Bourbon and vanilla sweet in the nose, but it also has a hint of smoked junipers and lots of crackers! "Gjerne" crackers. Really grows in you this nose. It has a lovely lovely flavor. So balanced! Scary to think of that this is a 11 percent imp stout cause it tastes like velvet. It’s not hard to pick up the smoke here, but it’s so balanced and not overpowering at all lots of dark chocolate and strong roasted malts. Yeah, I’m really impressed. I even get a little chili like fruitiness in the lingering licorice and cocoa aftertaste. Nice - no, I’ll go as far as to call this superb! 02.05.2014

Sample @ CBC 2014. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted, wood, smoked chili, dark fruits, earthy. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter with some smokey woody and peppery notes. Medium bodied and slick oily texture.

Keg at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014 - yellow session. 4th beer of the day. I was really pstched for this one. Dark caramel / black coloured pour with a nice tan head. Aroma is big veg, spicy green pepper, oak and dark choc. Flavour is more spicy pepper, veg, unroasted coffee bean, choc and sweet unrefined sugars. Semi-sweet, slightly cloying and lowish carbonation. Disappointed by this TBH. Far too much veg, pepper.

Growler shared with bytemesis. Small brown head, quickly gone. Aroma is chocolate. Terrific dark chocolate flavor, equal touch of sweetness and bitterness at first, turns more bitter over time. Some cherry/vanilla - i am told this was bourbon aged - but really alcohol is very subtle. Really good.

Tap @ CBC. This is interesting. Pours black with a brown smooth creamy head. Aromas of smoked jalapeños. It’s like opening a jar of those suckers! Dark bitter chocolate, dark dried fruits, earth, roasted malts. A slight smoked quality to it. Slight vanilla and nuts. Taste is quite pebbery and salty with jalapeños as the first thing that hits you. Slight vanilla, chocolate, dry and roasted. Slight smoke.

A black beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of vanilla, coffe, bourbon, and dark chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of coffee, vanilla, wood, dark chcolate, and roasted malt, leading to a bitter finish.
