Russian Imperial Stout made with smoked jalapeños from McClendon Select and smoked over Arizona mesquite wood, all aged on cocoa nibs (Papa New Guinea and Belize). Well, well. What sits in front of you, this thick, monstrous, viscous … this is the Russian Imperial Stout. This is the crème de la crème of the beer world. The empress of Russia couldn’t get enough of it. This being the US of freaking A makes this the free world’s style, thus, the American Presidential nomenclature. Catherine the Great would have sat in the Hermitage and asked why jalapeños smoked over Arizona mesquite were used. We say this to CTG: This is ’Merica and this is Wilderness. This is OUR stout. Enjoy — we poured our hearts and souls into this one!

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2014 Jet black with a light brown head. Wow. This is incredible. The nose is incredible. A mix of chocolate, smoked jalapeños, rich roasted malt, incredible cocoa nibs...and the flavor. Well the 11% is hidden incredibly well. The flavor is just the right amount of sweetness and roast. Tons of cocoa, molasses notes, just a perfect amount of smoke...an amazing stout.

Keg at the 4th Copenhagen Beer Celebration, Session I, 01/05/2015. Extremely dark mahogany brown topped with a moderate tan swirl. Nose is coffee grinds, spice, chocolate, toffee, subtle BA notes. Taste comprises more coffee grinds, light green pepper, chocolate, spice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light booze chase in the close. Decent impy.

Tap at warpigs copenhagen. Pitch dark smooth light brown head. Aroma is chillies herbal from the jalapeños which dominate. A warming roasted malty note is following but with this glass at this temp. All I get Is herbal chilies and alcohol. Flavor is more complex , roasted malts licorice wood full palate of rlavor notes but it was served way too chilled imo. I also get English licorice in the flavor. It really unfolds with temperature. Aroma not so much. The flavor is very complex and the jalapeños do not take over but just add depth to an already really nice complex flavor. Ends roasted malty with a complex base of wood licorice and a little hops and chilies.

Aroma is thick and sweet, with some spices in it. Pours black with a small brown head. Taste is nice and fresh, and a bit sweet together with just a bit of spiciness. Palate is okay, but could have a thicker mouth feel. Overall very nice, but the thin palate brings the beer down a bit.

Draft. Dark chocolate brown/black with a dense, fluffy head of tan. Smoky jalapeño, tangy chocolate and charred hamburger meat in the nose. There’s more chocolate in the flavor -- rich and fairly sweet. Subtle smokiness, beef, umami, Chalky chocolate hangs on the sides of the tongue. There’s no way this is 11 percent ABV. Medium body is sugary, almost creamy. Mild, silky carbonation. Smooth blend of flavors, with perfectly integrated notes of chocolate and smoke.
