Draught at CBC 2014. Clear red/brown - offwhite head. Barley, sweetness, grapes, dried fruits, coconut notes, res berries, toasted, light fat buttercookies, knækbrød. Nice.

On tap at CBC 2014. Dark brown with off white head. Aroma and taste has the classical barley wine notes; toffee, alcohol, malt, vinous and boozy notes plus some strange fruity notes that likely comes from the grapes. Very nice

Dark burgundy color with off white head. Initial response is from the Cabernet grapes with some malt presence. This finishes up with some heat. Still a solid beer, but probably my least favorite from these guys.

Dark brown pour with some haze and quickly fading head. Aroma has a strange funk to it (I’m sure this is some component of the cabernet grapes added,) caramel, alcohol, light spice. The flavor opens up softly but has some oomph to the finish, alcohol, brandy, toffee, dates.

Draft - Red vinous grape, caramel and cherry. Clear mahogany with no head. Lots of cherry, some tannin and bitterness and an orange and light alcohol finish. I am having trouble with this one, interesting and not sure if I like it or not. Inters

Tap at brewery. A yummy barley wine that isn’t too sweet or boozy which is a nice surprise. Nose is vinous and toffee. Tastes of cab grapes for sure, caramel, cherries, some brown sugar, and light hop bitterness. Quite enjoyable.

Clear dark amber pour with small off white head, quickly dissipating. Aroma of green grapes, caramel, malt and hops. Taste is quite fruity for a barley wine, caramel, toffee, white wine, slightly hoppy finish. Full bodied although nicely refreshing, good beer!

Poured up on tap into a squat tulip glass at the Wilderness. It pours with a dark clear amber body that supports a thin white head. The aroma offers up cherry meat, a bit of grainy malts (which I’m diggin’), some wheat notes, plum juice and dark red sweet plum flavored gummy bears. The taste begins sweet with cherry, sweet raisins and brown sugar sweetness that rolls into sweet malts, a dash of molasses and sweet date earthiness. This has a nice balance as the fruity esters mix with the punchy semi bright fruity and mild boozy notes. Right now this is young but has a pleasing balance and darn smooth with very little booziness to speak of.

On tap (young version) at the brewery. Nice nose of dark grapes, sweet malty caramel, some vanilla bean, rich toffee, and a bit of earthy English hops. Pours a murky, dark brownish-purple. Quite unique taste of sharp tannins, tart Cabernet grapes, dry malt sweetness, freshly tilled dark soil, and some brown sugar. Definitely let this one warm up. The vinous flavors are very dominant over the typical barleywine notes right now; it should be interesting to see how this one develops with age.
