On draft at the source. Orange / amber body with a small cap. Citrus and candied fruit aroma. Subtle floral and herbal qualities meld with caramel malt and bread characters. Light bodied and eat drinking. Tasty.

Pailhead (5074) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - AUG 14, 2014
On tap: The aroma consists of with light-moderate citrus, orange, lemon peel, and a hint of fruit. Itís a dark transparent amber with a small white head that quickly fades to a thin ring. There is some sporadic webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a light-moderate citrus/orange with a hint of caramel. The finish has light grapefruit with a hint lemon peel and spice. Itís light-medium bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel. Overall, a solid and refreshing Pale Ale.

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 16/20
FlacoAlto (3810) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - JAN 23, 2014
Arrives from the tap with a mostly clear, red-amber color and is topped by a thin, light tan colored head. The aroma has a big hop fruitiness to it that has ample notes of ripe tangelo, lychee, a bit of guava, some candied kumquat zest, and just a bit, expressive jumble of tropical, citrus, and floral fruit character.

Fairly light bodied, but has enough heft to carry the ample hop character. The beer is actually subtly bittered, and quite a bit smoother than I was expecting from 50 IBUs; much of this is likely due to the prior beers I have had, but this is certainly a great example that IBUs and beer strength are linked, as the Lil Gye Rye was way more bitter tasting. Ample floral, fruity hop notes dominate the flavor profile here; ripe tangelo zest, almost candied peach notes (without being sweet), lychee and guava tropical notes, as well as a touch of dank, herbal character in the finish, as well as a bit of pine sap like spiciness that includes a bit of a peppery bite.

A really nice example of a Pale Ale; these guys are not afraid to use expressive, new world hops, which is really what I look for now a-days in this style of beer. The malt character really plays a supporting role here; there is easily enough that the hops are floral, fruity and tropical in both the nose and flavor, but not really noticeable, and certainly not dense. A beer I would be happy to quaff a whole lot of. I went into this thinking, ehh, its a Pale Ale, who cares, but it is really a beer that is nice from the get go, and grows on me the more I spend time with it.

Draft at brewpub. Dark rubbish orange amber. Medium, creamy off-white hear, fairly lasting. Aromatic and inviting. Hoppy. Clean. Flavorful and delicious. Great balance all around. Medium body. Creamy, crisp, and supremely drinkable. Great stuff!

pours clear amber with a small, off-white head. Caramel malt aroma, tangy orange. Flavour is caramel with a steady, leafy bitter. Well done, sessionable. Thanks for the hand-me-down chain via ibrew2or3, Shrubber85....

Growler courtesy of Ibrew2or3 via shrubber85. Earthy, slightly funky hop and caramel malt aroma. Clear copper with a moderate off-white head. Toasty caramel malt, subdued earthy hops, and citrus peel flavor. Medium body and carbonation.

Ibrew2or3 (7101) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - DEC 26, 2013
Quaffed some of the 2nd batch of this at the brewpub (that has been tweaked compared to batch 1) where it exhibited a clear pure copper body that supports a white head that leaves behind sheet lacing. The aroma offers up a mix of woody spicy hops as well as citrus and then faint maltiness. The taste starts with a pleasing mouthfeel and brings about a nice mix of spicy woody hops and various citrus hop notes. The body stays assertive without being heavy and sluggish creating a nice sessionable experience. Solid frikiní Pale.

Bottle (thanks Ibrew2or3). Caramel orange malt and earthy hay aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Lightly sweet caramel malt and mildly bitter straw flavor. Nice, easy drinking beer.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2014 On draft at the brewery. Pours a copperish-orange with a craggy head and heavy lacing. Nice citrus aroma (grapefruit is the most prominent note) with pungent aromatic hops. A pleasant grassy bitterness and a sweet orange tone lend a nice balance without either flavor overpowering the other. Extremely clean finish. These guys are absolutely dialed in when it comes to session ales; I could happily drink this or the Little Guy Rye all day long (and I rarely have two of the same beer in one sitting).
