Classic West Coast IPA

Clear amber with a short white head. American hop pineapple candy aroma with faint pine resin. Candy sweetness, tropical gummy bears, pineapple drink mix, lightly peppery with faint off-notes of butter. Syrupy, sweet and sticky, under-attenuated and goopy in the mouth. Relatively low carbonation does little to cut the sweetness. Fruity-goopy fruit cocktail impression. Finishing bitterness is moderate and the sticky sugar lingers. Tropical gummy candy in a glass. Ugh.

Nice mango/tropical/pineapple smell. Unfortunately, the tropical fruit taste takes a major backseat to a major amount of hops. I’m not an IPA fan at all, so this isn’t my cup of tea. Medium carbonation with slight foam.

draft at brewery, very standard 2008 west coast ipa, sweet and boozy, bland bitter hops. Some piney aroma, not gulpable.

On tap @ Arizona Wilderness. Clear orange/amber pour with a white head. Heavy pine and orange, but also a lot of caramel and candy sugar. Dank hop nose, though. Flavor has a good grapefruit and pine character. Mild bitterness and a lot of caramel malt. Somewhat peachy as it warms. A bunch of orange marmalade as well. Sort of earthy, too.

From the tap poured a dark copper color with a small amount of head. Light citrusy hippy flavor with a quick finish.

On draft at AZ Wilderness. Light copper body with a small off white collar. Aromas of tropical fruit and hop resin atop a supporting biscuit malt bill. Light and refreshing. Hop forward. Mango and oranges. Solid.

Pleasant beer. Citrus and pine notes but not over the top. Very pretty clear copper color. Medium weight palate with good carbonation. Full mouthfeel. Not as pronounced as some WC IPA’s. Strong malt body with a lasting bitterness.

This one has mango/melon all over the nose, which is rather a pleasant thing. It presents with a bit more complexity on the palate, adding a bit of pine, the sweetness and bitterness doing decent battle, with the sweetness slowly winning out. The mouthfeel is quite soft. I understand that, combined with the heavy mango/melon presence, this is sort of the du jour interpretation of an IPA these days, but, not unlike their DC Mountain DIPA, I prefer an IPA that comes out drier, and that doesn’t threaten to become overly-filling due to all the fruit and residual sweetness.

Growler, thanks Dustin. dark murky copper. On the dark end for an IPA. Aroma is strong bitter hops. Taste is bitter oily hops. I guess the dominant flavor is pine but bitter and super hoppy seems to rule. A decent amount of malt but pretty well hidden by the strong hops.

Taste on tap. Rich copper color, head fades to a collar, decent lacing, it’s definitely a west coast IPA - no prisoners! Late-boil hops are appreciated, all the normal flavors but not "tongue-buckling" as the description says. Good mouthfeel easy to drink, nice std IPA. Very good, definitely recommended.
