COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available in a Tesco bottle conditioned pack.
Arkell's Best Bitter Beer, as it was originally known, was first brewed in 1910 and has been affectionately known as BBB or 3B by customers ever since. (One Swindon landlord will tell you that 'BBB' stands for "Big Boy's Beer"). Today, 3B is renowned by Britain's beer lovers as a superb, amber brew with a very distinctive taste and a sweet scent of malt beneath the hops. Pale malt makes up 88% of the dry ingredients along with 10% crystal malt and 2% sugar. According to the 'Real Ale Drinker's Almanac', 3B has "delicate, beautifully balanced malt and hop with lingering dry finish and hint of nut".

This is beer is well received where ever it is found. It has stood the test of time when other more modern brews have come and gone. It is a reflection of the quality and traditional method of brewing still undertaken at Arkells Brewery. The smooth drinkable flavour of the beer hides the deep after taste, and the impact of it’s 4% abv. Many a new drinker has found it to be a more powerful brew than it’s strength implies. If well kept this is a superb beer, still brewed in a traditional fashion.

tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - SEP 29, 2011
First tasted this at the Mossend Beer Festival, Lochwinnoch. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear copper red in colour with a thin white head. Slight fruit note in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malt base gives a digestive tea biscuit flavour with a suggestion of dried raisins. Metallic tang of hop resins gives a tired bitterness in the short aftertaste. Dry in the bitter sweet finish but poor overall.
