COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pasteurised bottle.
Kingsdown Ale is the strongest of our regular beers but is a brother to 3B as it comes from the same mash. It retains a strong character of its own, however, with its rich colour, ripe fruit 'nose' and that traditional Arkell's hopiness. You can taste the malt too, along with a bitter-sweet finish and fruit notes. 'Kingsdown', which is named after the area of Upper Stratton where the brewery is situated, was originally brewed as a special beer to commemorate Swindon Town Football Club's League Cup triumph in 1969 and went into regular production in 1976.

Bottled, Pasteurised.
Deep brown with red hue, slight white head. Sweetish full bodied fruity beer with a slight chemical note about it. Plenty of caramel toffee notes but overall fairly decent.

Bottle from Waitrose, Cirencester. Deep copper in colour with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of sweetmalts, hedgerow fruit and some earthiness. Sweet, malty flavour with a lot more fruit and bitter hop finish. A good bottled beer - streets ahead of the Tanglefoot sampled earlier in the day.

I hope I’m talking about the same beer as everyone else here, but I didn’t like it. Smells like dishwater with a bit of melon. The flavour was malty - and slightly dark - but not sustained. It soon gives way to a nasty finish of ethanol and washing machine water.

Deep red/amber colour. Very nice for a pasteurised bottled bitter. Far better than I was expecting. A good balance of nutty malt, fruit and hops. Clean fruity finish. Bottled (500ml)

Dark brown/reddish ale withb a slightly burn't and lightly hopped aroma. The flavour is mainly carmel with a dry finish. Overall a nice but plain ale.

A reddish bitter with malts dominating although there are a range of other flavours present.Fruits are there and as are traces of hops. What may appear on the surface to be a run of the mill strong bitter turns out to be a complex and satisfying drink.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2005 Nov, 2003: Bottle. A glowing red brown colour. A decent malty nose. A delicious malt profile - sweet, but not excessive, and nicely balanced by tangy hops. A very enjoyable and satisfying pint. [3.2]

Bottled. Chestnut colour, good white head, moderate condition. Caramel, hop and butter aromas, some more buttery diacetyl in the mouth with a hop flavour developing and becoming hop bitter and caramel sweet in the finish.
