Cask - The Bell Hotel (JDW), Norwich. Poured a clear ruddy amber colour with a lasting & lacy small off-white dense-ish head. A touch murky on the nose: yeast, tangy red fruits & malt. Rich, slightly tangy red fruits all round. A nice dry yeasty tone on the tongue. Dark lightly roasted, biscuity, oaty malts & hints of chocolate. Finished with a light fruit skin bitterness. Medium-ish body, soft, lightly carbonated mouthfeel, medium length finish. A relatively solid ESB.

(cask @ Golden Lion, Rochester) Deep bronze body, with wispy bubbles as a head...Nose is both dusty and aromatic hops, some toffee malt accent showcase too. In the mouth a pleasant wave of citrusy hop action from the first few sips, fruity and crisp ...the ale twists toward maltiness -toffee notes. A pretty reasonable ESB. Tepid , but pleasant enuff.’

Cask handpull, St Matthew’s Hall (JDW), Walsall, 06/02/12. Copper with a slim off-white collar. Marzipan and cherry aroma. Glace cherry flavour with a disconnected, astringent late bitterness. Soft carbonation with a tang of minerals. Flaccid, boozy, old man’s bitter; one-dimensional, brown and dreary.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - SEP 29, 2011
First tried this in the Coach & Horses, Rotherwick in August 1982. Cask , handpump dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thick off white head. Strong malty aroma with a hint of yeasty warm dough. Thin but robust mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts deliver a strong maltloaf base with moist raisin fruit and brown sugar. Full hop resins impart a potent aftertaste. Finish edges on the malt side. Tastes far stronger than the og suggests. Highly recommended but dangerously drinkable as a session.

Handpulled cask at JDW Stanmore. Lovely looking pint in the pinicle of condition, slowly clearing to an atractive ruby colour with off white creamy head. Very malty and luscious with subtle minimal hopping. Not my type of beer but still very much enjoyed.
