COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Seasonal - December. Previously 5.5%.
A real winter warmer! Launched in 1987 and named in honour of the present Chairmanís grandfather, Sir Noel Arkell, who was born on Christmas Day. The strongest of Arkellís Ales, this full-bodied beer is cleverly disguised by its distinctive light colour, and slides down very easily, leaving drinkers with a warm, tingling feeling.

Pint in Auld Brig in Irvine (JDW) Dark gold colour with thin white head. No aroma. Tastes pretty bland. Touch of butterscotch but not much else. Slightly bitter finish. Light oily mouthfeel. Not for me sorry.

Cask pint in my local Wetherspoons on 5th Dec 2014. Poured a good, bright amber colour with a thin white head. Mixed fruit and malty taste, very little aroma: got sweeter in flavour as it warmed a little in the glass. Although it had almost no smell I still enjoyed it. Almost had another pint, but I managed to drag myself away and home before I started a session (it was lunchtime when I had it).

No detected aroma. Golden appearance with thin off white head. Taste butterscotch. Disappointing on palate. Bitterness just okay. Overall not awful but for me a disappointment.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Gold with white, lacing, head. Quite a mashy, grainy malt lead beer, fairly thin on the palate but with some redeeming dryness and bitterness. Not a beer to return to for me.

Pint at Spoons Gateshead. Orangey gold with a tight white head. cereal and butterscotch aroma. Sweetshop toffee and bubblegum flavour. Medium bodied, slick texture, nice constrasting bitter finish. In all honesty, a bit dull.

[Cask at 5% at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading] Pale amber, slight off-white head. Straw, caramel, a little orange, a hint of spice and a slightly dry finish. Doesnít taste itís strength, and is rather light in both colour and flavour for a Christmas beer, but as a bitter itís perfectly acceptable if a little dull.
