Cask; Seasonal - December. Previously 5.5%.
A real winter warmer! Launched in 1987 and named in honour of the present Chairmanís grandfather, Sir Noel Arkell, who was born on Christmas Day. The strongest of Arkellís Ales, this full-bodied beer is cleverly disguised by its distinctive light colour, and slides down very easily, leaving drinkers with a warm, tingling feeling.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Gold with white, lacing, head. Quite a mashy, grainy malt lead beer, fairly thin on the palate but with some redeeming dryness and bitterness. Not a beer to return to for me.

[Cask at 5% at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading] Pale amber, slight off-white head. Straw, caramel, a little orange, a hint of spice and a slightly dry finish. Doesnít taste itís strength, and is rather light in both colour and flavour for a Christmas beer, but as a bitter itís perfectly acceptable if a little dull.

Light to medium sweet flavor, pale malts, dry straw, faintly herbal, some dry lemon and orange. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Mild dry finish, moderate sweetness, dry white bread, dry biscuits. It is an exceptionally basic beer.

Cask at the Bear (JDW), Maidenhead. ABV 5.0% according to the pump clip. Amber with a tight cream head; malty aroma; sweet fruity malt flavour with a satisifying richness, then developing some crisp, sour, bitterness, before a biscuity finish. Rather good.
