25-Dec-07 (500-ml bottle, Best Before Jan-08: Purchased 23-Dec-07 for $4.99 at the Pizza Port Bottle Shop in Carlsbad, CA) Letís start with the positives. This beer has a decent flavor: earthy, very nutty, and toasty, finishing with bakerís chocolate and dry, light roastiness. Nothing too exciting, but fairly enjoyable. Similar notes of nuts, chocolate and toast in the nose, but a quick swirl releases toffee as well. Now for the not so positive. On the palate, this beer is thin, to the point of being watery, and nearly flat in regards to the carbonation level. Amber-brown in color and fairly hazy, it pours with just a wisp of heading, with a few large bubbles from my vigorous pouring. Not a bad beer, but when I bought a dark beer from Scotland, I really expected more.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2008 Bottle. At The Flying Barrel, Gothenburg. Brown/red color with a small off-white head. Aroma: Sweet and lightly toasted malt, figs, citrus, yeast and caramel. Flavor: Lightly roasted, light hops, citrus, yeast and sourness. A bit thin and watery, but still not bad. Reminds me a bit of a cask ale.

downender (6290) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - DEC 29, 2007
Bottle. Amber coloured with a slight off-white head. Malty fruit and caramel aroma. Flavour also inclined towards sweetness with a short, bitter finish. Ok, but not memorable.

pivnizub (8853) - Bochum, PorķřŪ, GERMANY - DEC 29, 2007
Bottle: Amber coloured, lacy off-white to yellowish head, fruity, dark malty nose with a tinge of burnt barley and distinctive hops ; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light bodied; hoppy aromas, mixed with burnt malt, in the finish. Not bad, but not really well balanced...........

beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - NOV 17, 2007
Pours copper with a small off-white head. This beer had a bit of an oxidized taste to the malts in the finish that was a bit distracting. Earthy flavors show in the finish, caramel, fruits, and sort of nutty flavor.

faroeviking (10289) - FAROE ISLANDS - NOV 11, 2007
Bottle. Pours a clear amber colour with a medium rather short lasting beige head. Sweet aroma of caramel, tosted malt, some grains, bitter hops and bit of chocolate. Rather thin mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet with caramel, toasted malt, bit of chocolate and fruit, hops and slightly herby. Dry bitter toasty finish with a chocolate touch. Good flavour but itís too watery and needs more body.

reakt (950) - Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 17, 2007
Dark amber with a thin off white head. Malt and grassy hop and nose. Watery malts and not much else. Apart from the name I canít see whatís so dark about it?

A Mes rate: Botlle from David Peckhams. Clear red brown with a rim of off white bubbles. Thin off malt aroma. Even thinner off malt flavour. Sour and milky. Pretty poor to be honest.

Sigmund (5117) - Tau, NORWAY - SEP 9, 2007
500 ml bottle, bought at Peckhamís, Glasgow. ABV is 4.3%. Copper coloured beer, moderate off-white head. Nice aroma: nutty, fruity, moderately roasted malts. The flavour is moderately malty and fruity, notes of moderately roasted malts and toffee. Moderate hops. The weird finish is both sourish, soapy and "dusty" at the same time.
