A Mes rate: Cask at The Gatehouse ’Sporks.
Mid brown with a slim white head. Quite hoppy in the aroma with some underlying malt and caramel. Malts come to the fore in the mouth with more caramel and a pronounced nutty note. Quite sweet. Bitter hoppy finish. Dull but ok.

On cask at The Heriot-Watt Beer Festival. Strangely pours a golden - amber colour. A yeasty aroma with caramel and apple seed characters. Similar flavours and just a little dry to finish. Mild carbonation. Unexciting.

First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 2000. Cask, handpump. Clear ruby red in colour with a thin buff head. Slight hint of roast malt in the short aroma. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a maltloaf base with moist sultanas and wood smoke. Prickle of hop resins in the short aftertaste. Dry oak cask and nutty flavours come through in the rounded finish. An ok session ale.

(Cask at GBBF, London Earl’s Court, 5 Aug 2010) Dark amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with apricots, caramel and dusty hops. Malty, fruity taste with notes of dried fruit, caramel, apricots, orange, toasty malt and a mild bitterness in a fairly dry finish. Light body. Well balanced and tasty, but hardly exciting.

Cask at GBBF 2010. Good amber brown colour with a good white head. Plenty of fruit in the aroma, with a hint of orange. Malts dominate the initial taste and again the citrus and orange combination work well in the aftertaste. A very nice beer, ideal summer drink for a person that prefers a darker beer.
