Looks good. Deep reddy brown. Dense firm head. full roasty and fairly earthy. Some nuts, some acidity.A bit too firm really and on the astriongent side without much of an appetising quality to it. Potential juice just leaves a hard edge. Needs balance and more engagement.

Poured deep dark brown with a small off white head. Aroma of heavy malt and dark fruit. Medium body, flavour as the aroma, well balanced and the gem in the Arran portfolio.

On tap at Berts in Edinburgh, lots of dark fruit in this dark amber beer, with an astringent mouth and port flavors.

On tap @ Ghillie Dhu. Pours dark amber to black with a nicely proportioned head. The nose has honey nut cornflakes. The taste has more of the same and a nutty note too. The palate is medium with a creamy structure and a reasonably elegant finish. Overall, the best Arran beer I’ve had.

Cask. Amber with a beige head, doesn’t look very good. Not much in the way of aroma. Flavour is caramel with a bitter finish. Manages to be both dull and shit.

On cask at The Heriot-Watt Beer Festival. Strangely pours a golden - amber colour. A yeasty aroma with caramel and apple seed characters. Similar flavours and just a little dry to finish. Mild carbonation. Unexciting.

Cask by handpump for Battle of the Brewers at Last Post, Paisley (28 Jan 12) - clear amber ale, small off-white head, no real distinctive flavour, but hint of caramel, toffee and fruit, clean finish, nice

First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 2000. Cask, handpump. Clear ruby red in colour with a thin buff head. Slight hint of roast malt in the short aroma. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a maltloaf base with moist sultanas and wood smoke. Prickle of hop resins in the short aftertaste. Dry oak cask and nutty flavours come through in the rounded finish. An ok session ale.
