highlandlad (1200), Sydney, Australia Jul 1, 2008 Updated: Jul 2, 2008 One of the burdens of RateBeer addiction is buying crap beer because, hey it might be a new country, then logging on and finding out that not only is not a new country, but you already had three crap beers from that stoopid country. Arriba is from the SABMiller production line in El Salvador that brought you Cantina and Cabana. Judging by the pictures here on RateBeer, they all come in the same Corona-inspired clear bottles and have fairly similar ABVs. A look at the brewer’s page confirms that the Cerveceria La Constancia spits out dozens of these lagers with vaguely exotic names, which means at some point in the future I’ll find myself buying Tocayo or Bareno or Caballo because hey, it might be a new country. Arriba, funnily enough is remarkably similar to Cantina and Cabana. It smells like the interior of a new car with lots of factory-fresh vinyl and three tyres on fire. The dog in the backseat has been for a swim and wet himself when he realised the car was on fire. There’s a sheep back there and it hasn’t been sheared in... oh... at least three years, so the lanolin is ripe. The beer tastes heaps better than it smells. So does toe-jam. It’s one of those malt-and-hop-free lagers that appeal to people who don’t much care for beer unless there’s something else in it to take away the bitter taste. Corona drinkers. Shandy drinkers. Fortunately, SABMiller has done most of the work for them. Good old SABMilller. I look forward to buying Carriba, Carena and Tocata in the near future. Soon as I’ve got rid of this nasty smell. (355ml bottle from Liquor on Parade, KIngsford. Best Before May 09 or ideally never)
ehhdayton (1086), USA Aug 29, 2008 Has a poor aroma with very little to greet the nose and no hops or malt. The color is a very light yellow almost nonexistent and the head goes away as fast as you pour the beer and is white. Flavor is bland absent of any malt or hop charateristics. ghawener (698), San Salvador, El Salvador Jun 1, 2008 Bottle: Clean, crisp, slightly hopped. Medium body and refreshing. Typical Pale Lager. JohnMojo (1), Summerville, South Carolina, USA does not count Feb 20, 2008 An outstanding beer; excellent taste and hop aroma; clean finish; very good foam character madquacker (505), Canberra ACT, Australia Dec 28, 2007 Soon as I sighted the faux Corona bottle and gaudy pyramid on the front I suspected this would be bad. I was not disappointed. Tastes of corn fired cheap alcohol. Had no head at all. Difficult to discern any hops at all in this. I’ll even drink VB over this. Awful.
