Bottle opened for Nudgerita’s wedding. My god it basically tastes like a rye whiskey. Seriously whiskey forward stuff and it works. Fairly boozy hit but still goes down well enough. Tasty drop and definitely one for the whiskey heads

Strong whiskey aroma coming off the red/orange/brown body with a light tan head. That whiskey pops out immediately in the taste with a sharp rye spiciness. Sugary sweetness wraps around along with a good alcohol bite. The whiskey seems to vaporize and fill your mouth so it’s like taking a shot with an Arrogant Bastard! That taste lingers long after the sip is over. Very tasty variation on a classic.

Un nez poivré, chaleureux de whiskey sur céréales caramélisés à grand feu. Un corps léger et bien chargés de cadavres d’houblons terreux trouve le moyen d’être délicat. Buvabilité bâtardement active.

Tap: Dark, hazy copper body with a foamy, semi-chunky khaki foam on top. Aroma of faint red apple, light wood, some slightly metallic caramel notes, prune, & a whole shitload of spicy bourbon. Almost pungent. Flavor is the same, very boozy. Hot, spicy, & charred oak burnt the throat with a strong bourbon undertaking. Light caramel, toffee, & toasted malts around the edges with hints of earthiness & a mild pine presence. But the booze is quite overpowering here, making this not very fun to drink.

This is the 10% version bottle. Forgot where I bought it but it’s fairly recent. Hops kick in the finish. Wood, coconut, rye whiskey all bold and fresh taking. Incredible drinkability. Lots of foamy lace, and reddish tinged body.

Pour from a 500ml at fobab. Sorry, but I didn’t like this one. Stale hops and booze. It was harsh and basically undrinkable.

500 ml bottle poured into a snifter. 10% ABV Bastard in the Rye bottle from the Quingenti Millilitre 2014 series, batch #5. Dark reddish brown with 2.5 fingers of beige head. Aromas of whiskey, rye, spices. Tastes of whiskey, big rye, spices, citrus, floral and bitter notes, oak. Medium body with a dry finish.

The 50cl caged and corked Bastard in the Rye bottle (2014 vintage with 2013 Templeton Rye Barrels) pours with a murky amber brown body that supports a light tan head. The aroma offers up lots of whiskey as well as some oak, vanilla and then echoes of Arrogant Bastard Ale (ABA) malts and pine hoppiness. The taste is soft and sweet and delivers sweet whiskey, mild spicy oak, sugary sweetness, sweet vanilla and then thin ribbons of pine hops and ABA malts and roasted maltiness. This ends with lingering whiskey and mild pine hops mixed with faint maltiness. I’d love to try this with a lot less barrel character and find out how ABA evenly balanced with the barrel notes turns out.

Draft pour. Deep copper pour with a cream head. Aroma of hops, caramel, wood, booze. Taste is lightly bitter, wood, hints of rye, sugar, grass, caramel. All well-balanced. All around pretty great.
