Commercial Description:
This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

750 mL bottle from Seattle. Pours a dark brown with just a hint of red, with a thin but foamy head. Aroma starts out all resinous hops, but adds in some raisins and other fruit underneath. The flavor is mostly resiny hops again, but there is some maltiness lurking down there. Not much, but a bit. The finish is long and bitter. Palate is very nice, with very fine and light carbonation. Overall a decent beer, but quite one-dimensional.

Poured from 22 oz bottle.Dark Mahogony in color with medium tan head. Nose of hops with a bit of fruit. Excellent taste very well balanced between the hops and malts, with a dry finish.

Draft. Dark mahogany color. Mild earthy aroma. Average sized off white head. Very good lacing. Huge hoppy flavor, but honestly more bitter then hoppy. The writeup is correct. Most people will not like this. But I loved it. Its good and nasty, not for those faint of heart. Nice dry finish.

Thanks to Daknole. Dark amber pour with a light tan head. Aroma of hops, sweetness, Dry taste, flavor of malt, mild sweetness, spicy hops, a little bitterness at the end. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. I wish this beer was available in my area.

Draft, Bottle, and Cask WHAT! Amber body with an off white head. Fresh sweet pine and hints of caramel with a light citrus and on cask the hop character was delicious. Great beer.

The Bastard pours a deep deep red amber hue to a nice frothy light beige head that laces your glass nicely..aromas of spruce, resin hops, perfume coming through...taste of bitter spicy evergreen trees bushes plants flowers seeds hops hops hops, citrus, very nice I love it..this is what I expected from the bastard, nothing less, beautiful appearance, taste great..The Bastard’s worthy...

Pours a very murky, dark amber color with a very thick yellow, off-white head that leaves tremendous lacing as it goes down. Aroma is very full of a great mixture of hops; citrus notes are very pungent, a nice piny background bitterness is present and a light spicy nose too. Flavor begins with a very strong and full citrus and pine bitterness which lightens as it moves into a middle where the caramel and Munich malt sweetness and roasted notes really come out and the beer finishes with a deep bitter bite. Beer is thick but not as thick as I would of expected with the sweetness and it has a very creamy and smooth. I can honestly say I was a bit worried because this beer is sooooo hyped but in all honesty it stands up to expectations and one I could see being a regular beer if on tap at a bar in my area. This beer is honestly very well balanced and no one aspect of it stands out but as a whole they completely meld making a truly fantastic brew.

It is hoppy but not as hoppy and bitter as some beers. Actually failry pleasant. I would have it again, but not being a hop head, wouldn’t be my first choice.
