This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Bomber from the LCBO. Pours a muddy brown with a thin off-white head. Aromas have some hoppiness to them, but you quickly get malts, caramel, some gingerbread cookies, a bit of red fruits. Fairly creamy mouthfeel. On the palate I’m getting a melange of grapefruit, spices, slightly sweet malty biscuits, toasty roastiness, with a rye bread twinge on the swallow and after taste. A pretty darned complex and balanced ale. Worth seeking out.

Well I liked it despite label. Hoppy aroma dark orange to red color. Taste malty and bitter hoppy. Pretty high in alcohol so not too many for me.

On tap at The Archive for Armakeggon. I know what all the hype is about, great full flavoured beer.

Very mild smell but cold beer, very cool red color though...very slightly sweet at first, hoppier right after and it lingers....bold flavor...little more bitter than I like

Never forgot this one. Think I first had a few (ended messily) about 12 years ago. Revisited now with more focus on taste. Big and bold hoppy bitterness. It lingers. Rich and sweet malt. This is a big, strong ale. Yes there are subtle notes too - fruit and nuts, caramel.

Very nice dark amber-ruby color. Clear with very nice head. Aroma: hops, resin, roasty tones and a bit of basement and raisins. Taste: at first resiny hops, but then hazelnuts, raisins and hondy. Semi sweet, soft carbonated and medium bodied. After a while I can feel some strange tones like: wet towel, and cloves. Nice beer, balanced.

Bottle bought at the BeerTemple, thanks to Ster for keeping this aside. Classic red strong ale with thick, moussy, lacing, light yellowish white head and beautifully deep and warm, orangey copper red colour, clear with quiet fizz, misty with deposit. Strong bouquet of caramel, biscuit, persimmon, toast, gingerbread, dried grapefruit peel, spruce needles, nutmeg, roasted pine nuts, bourbon, dried apricot, walnuts, white pepper, dried flowers, hay, pipe tobacco and green tea. Clean fruity onset, crisp, subdued sweetishness with a light salty edge, red berries, orange peel, smooth body with soft carbo, lovely smooth maltiness, caramelly, nutty and very toasted, bittersweet with a long drying finish of firm, peppery, dried citrus-peel and lightly piney hop bitterness, warming the throat along with a dash of bourbon-like alcohol. Very pleasant, smooth, characterful beer, as the ’arrogance’ on the bottle would indeed suggest. Glad I finally tasted this classic.
