While the nose of this beer is pungent with hops, the palate is somewhat of a disappointment. While this is a well-crafted ale, the bitterness borders on being overly harsh, and does not have quite enough of a malt balance. Still, this is a classic example of a thoroughly American style. fezzik20 (8), USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 4, 2009 This is one of the best breweries in my opinion. One of many great beers that they brew. Deep brown pour, smooth mouthfeel, very hoppy but fairly balanced. Satisfying bitter finish. Probably a bit better than the Ruination IPA but not quite as good as the Double Bastard. NDbeerdrinker (164), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 4, 2009 Pours an opaque brown with a one finger tan head that leaves some really nice lacing. Aroma is slightly roasted malts, hops, and some dark fruit. Taste is real nice, and I agree with Stone that their beer is aggressive. Strong bitter and slightly hot finish savnac (411), Palmer, Alaska, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 3, 2009 22oz bottle. Aroma is very hoppy and malty. Nice deep amber color. Rich in flavor with a good balance of malt and hops. It’s rare to have a beer with as much body and hop flavor taste good, but this one pulls it off. Not my favorite Stone brew but unique and worth a try. The hops balance out the sweetness of the malt very nicely. Medium Bodied. Goood Beer. gws57 (1137), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA

Cloudy, dark brown pour, with a delicious piney hoppy nose, a potent, maple syrup and piney flavor, with a strong bitter finish. Outstanding. webbcreative (111), , Oklahoma, USA

With 2 finger head, that sticks to the glass tighter than spandex to Kirsti Alley. Smells wonderfully of hops and maybe some carmel and malt. Taste is a little sweetnes up front then maybe some carmel and rosted malt, then in the end getting a bit of that hop bitterness, pretty well balanced actually for such an amped up brew, and the alcohol is pretty well hiddden in this one for me also.
Overall I went into this beer hoping to love it, but truthfully expecting to hate it. I was very plesantly surprised with this one, I really liked it alot! and will have to get more whenever im done in TX. [or wherever stone might be sold] guyinchicago (526), marengo, Illinois, USA
