COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

The Arrogant Bastard pours a deep copper-red with a creamy light brown head that retains well and laces the glass.

It's aroma is strong hops with some citrus notes.

The taste is not nearly as bold as I was expecting. I'm not normally a hop-head, but this is hops well done. Some sweetness and citrus up front, but the hops really dominate the flavor. The citrus, grapefruity twang really helps to balance the bitterness and keep it in line. It packs a bitter aftertaste, but not overwhelmingly so.

The mouthfeel is very smooth and pleasantly bubbly.

Overall, a very smooth drinking beer. I could easily see this as a session beer if not for the wallop of the 7.2% alcohol, which is not noticeable as you drink it.

This interesting brew finishes much better than it starts. At 7.2% it is fairly potent. At first the maltiness whacked me over the head, but as I finished it, the flavor seemed more balanced. Overall, I was much happier with it near the end than the beginning.

My 200th rating!!! Bottled, and poured a clear brown with a fluffy tan head. This one had a very malty front and a very hoppy back. The aftertaste was a little too astringent for my liking, but this beer was a treat to try, seeing as how I live in a state where this one is illegal.

Dark red appeareance with aggresive malts off the bat. Begins like an IPA , but finishes like a nice porter. A little tooo malty for me, but very nice.

The back of the bottle saays it all... It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth

Creamy, root-beer float like head. Heavy, hoppy aroma. Goes well with a burger with jalapeno and worcestershire sauce. A little chewy on the malt. I'd have again, one of Stone's better brews.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2004 Pours an amber/mahogany color with orange tints. Very robust yellow/orage then changing to tan head. Aroma is hoppy with a fruity scent. Chocolate in the nose as well as some mild yeastly banana smells. Flavor is a hoppy bitter turning into some mild to moderate chocolate notes in the finish. Perhaps some yeast in the start. re-rate--more malts in the nose, maybe hints of chocolate in there. Increased aroma to 7 and OA to 15 from 6 and 14 respectively. More enjoyable than Ruination.

My favorite "go to" beer. Aroma always jumps out of the bottle to smack me around before the pour. After the pour, its a balance of sweet and hoppy that prevails throughout the entire profile. Stone has found the perfect balance in this beer for "hopheads" who aren't afraid of backbone. Grapefruit may be the best way to describe it from beginning to end. It's just a juicy beer. Sort of like a "session barley wine" if you can imagine that. Buy this beer.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2006 Bottle, 22oz. Poured a clear dark brown color with a ruby tint. Very seductive looking held up to the light. Nice beige tan head. Nice, malty, hoppy aroma. Big, rich, creamy, full bodied, roasted malt flavor. Rather sweet. Complemented very well with the tasty, bitter hops. No noticable alcohol in this 7.2%er. Good sticky lace that frustrates because it looks big & thick enough to slide down to your tongue when the glass is empty but won’t budge. Wanted more when I hit empty. (added 4/1/04): This stuff is amazing. Tastes like its got a good 100 calories per mouthfull..... liquid velvet. 3/21/05 I’m dropping .1 to 4.1 great stuff but not better than Stone IPA. 4/4/06 Down to a 3.8 my world is getting bigger.
