4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 30, 2004 3/14/02 I like it !!! Very bold, but good for a change of pace. 1/30/04 Deep mahogany color with a frothy mocha head. Rich barley wine like aroma with a touch of grapefruit. Flavor starts rich and caramel sweet followed by some intense hop bitterness that is well balanced by the malt. Finish has a dry stout like bitterness. Palate is rich and smooth. By GOD, I am fucking worthy!

I went to the Stone last weekend and sampled their beers. Well worth the visit for anyone visiting North County San Diego. The staff was very friendly and showed us the entire facility. This is a great beer. I bought a case!

Great artwork and text on the bottle! The back is hilarious. Inventive taste, a must try. I couldn’t drink it every day.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: FEB 9, 2004 Clear, ruby red. Soapy, rocky head and lace. Huge nose of caramelly, crystal malts and resiny hops. I also detect some peat and chocolate as well. Very rich. sweet flavors of malt, caramel and brutal, bitter, piney, resiny hops swimming in a medium-thick, rich body. Very hoppy but has wonderful sweetness throughout that provides the balance. Finish is hoppy and pretty dry. A damn fine beer! Thank you Gusler!

This stuff is awesom. There is an increible quntitity and variety of flavors packed
into this amazing brew. It has a wonderful hop beginning and a beutiful chocalate malty finish.

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2006 Thought I would re-rate now due to my personal affinity for this brew. Once again, very deserving of the 5.0 rating I originally gave. A Hall of Fame brew that turned me on to the joys of all other beers being different than Miller or Anheuser Busch.

Absolutely gorgeous color on this one. Excellent transition with the hops, it all went smooth. Finish of roasted fruits, raisin.

This beer just doesn’t do it for me. Maybe I have something against hype, as this beer is hyped a lot, but it just tastes harsh and unpleasant to me. Sorry, guys. I do like your IPA quite well, however.
