This is an aggressive beer. You probably wonít like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Dark dark amber ruby with a thin tan thick head, quickly discipating. The nose is crisp with perfume hops, the taste is stron perfume hops, starts sweet, middle acidic grapefruit, and ends with a spicy tangy hops. The body is tingly and crisp. Its good, but not as sweet as Id like.

Light tan head on top of a dark amber brown body. Nice Lace. Malty earthy aroma with a great floral citrusy hop pressence. Flavor starts sweet at the tip of your tounge and rolls back your taste buds ending with an excellent bitter finish. Citrusy with an orange sweetness. Big malt body, nice mouthfeel. Ends with a lingering dry aftertaste.

The bottle I had poured dark, with a thick tan head and funky aroma... it tasted almost exactly like Three Floyds Alpha King until the end, wherein a certain tanginess set in.

Maybe there is something to the mystique of the 3L bottle. Ok, no there isnít, but three years of aging make this a deeper, more complete beer
The good - strong
The bad - like funky pond water.
<P> This "black sheep" in the Stone family is good in all other respects (besides wretched aroma). If you follow the technique of plugging your nose with one hand, you will notice a great heavy malt, heavy hop barleywine styled champion. The taste of sherry is up front, with a loooong dry finish. Rating this lower than the norm must mean that "Iím not worthy"!

A near perfect beer! A foamy, hop-heavy aroma. Definitely an aggressive ale in all ways-- from the name, to the bottle artwork- from the appearance to the smell to the finish. A nice honey-molasses flavor slickly balances out the heavy hops presence. Definitely an ass-kicker of a beer! Strong, aggressive yet velvety finish. Sooooo good!

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2009 Iím not at all what you would call a hop-head so I figured this beer would be too aggressive for me, but I was wrong... Wonderful "beery" aroma, beautiful brown-copper color, and flavor was pleasently hoppy. YUMMY!

This wretched beer is an amatuer-hour, bad home brew, ill-conceived bottle of mess. Outside its bigger, dumber brother "double bastard", it's perhaps top the crap-heap of overrated beers. How does a brewery that makes the greatest IPA ever made bottle trash like this?

Reddish brown body with very low carbonation and a thin head that is gone is a matter of seconds. Lace is also quite minimal, and the beer has very still appearance in general. Aroma is on the sweetish side with flowery hops and malts that smell like honey. I can also detect a fair bit of grain on the nose with hints on vanilla and oak. Malt profile is very Scottish with sweet caramel, plum, cherry, vanilla, and a bit of smoked grain. Hops are quite detectable, and become more pronounced as the beer warms some. The hops add some dryness to the aftertaste due to their spicy, woody character, but they are not really bitter. As the beer gets warmer still, the malts that had been subdued by the hops make a big comeback with very fruity esters. Silky smooth mouthfeel with a nicely warming alcohol content. A sipping beer to wind down a stressful day at work, as the experience is totally relaxing and mellow.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2005 Cool looking mohogany color with a light beige head. Strong roasted malt nose with something sweet (molasses?) Kind of sweet/tart taste. Loads of refreshing lemony hops with a great balance of sweet, sweet maltiness. Good stuff!
