4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is a beautiful looking beer- pours ruby brown, with nice carbonation, fluffy tan head, that leaves decent lacing. Aroma is toast with a little fruitiness. Flavor is initial (quick) toast then grapefruit. Finish is strongly bitter, and dry. Mouthfeel throughout is creamy, but a slight bite at the end. Aftertaste of malt and bitters. Wonderful.

4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Dark Amber pour with a thick, lasting head with great lacing. Heavy aroma of grapefruit and pine. Thick mouthfeel with a very bitter finish. More of a 'XXXL IPA' than a Strong Ale, but it's a work of art. Simply outstanding.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
BEAUTIFUL color, almost blood red, with a huge MFing head, that's tan and fluffy... and lots and lots of lacing.
OOOH that smell... citrusy, grapefruits, oranges, with only a hint of something roasted. This is gonna be a good one!
OOOH thick! and bitter bite, pretty damn strong! Not for the light beer drinkers (but light beer drinkers aren't beer drinkers anyway). Nice fruity taste up front, followed by an EXTREME bitterness that seems to slap your face, saying "You stupid idiot, did you really think I'd be tame?"
One of the best mouthfeels I have ever had... just purely magical in a beer world.
EXTREMELY drinkable... but one a night (too thick and heavy for more than that!)

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
fairly malty start with a wonderfully hoppy finish, this is an excellently balanced ale, and really helped me through today's fairly boring super bowl.
even the 'yellow beer drinkin wussy' i let try it liked it (and he really dug the deScription ;) )

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2005 Bottle. Beautiful deep ruby in colour, cream coloured head and great lacing. Aroma of pine, hops, citrus and caramel. Flavour is incredibly hoppy, some sweetness, lots of caramel and pine. Finishes with a big hoppy, dry, lingering bitterness. Thanks ClarkVV for letting me try this.
Tap. Deep amber in colour. Intense aroma of pine and citrus hops. Flavour was hoppy but smoother then from the bottle. Slightly sweet, still lots of citrus hops and pine needles. Medium body and high carbonation. Finishes with a very long and refreshing dry bitterness.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAY 22, 2004 Dark red, beige head. Roaring boiling pour. Lots of roast and maltiness in the nose. Mouth feel was superb. Piles of dried fruit, caramel, malt. Notes of cherry, dates, raisins, bread, and honey. Very full bodied. Lovely ale flavour. Nice finish. Fantastic. I'd kill a man for another. Thanks Mr. Kimchee. Updated: More or less the same. I didn't adequately describe how hoppy this beer is. Lots of hops in the nose. Very bitter.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
I can't freakin believe I've not rated this one yet! Anyway...Coppery brown w/a lasting beige head. Assertive piney and grapefruit hop aromas that get stronger as it warms. Light caramel presence and a hint of roastiness. Seems to be very little fruitiness. Hoppy grapefruit citrus very well balanced by a caramel and roast presence. Fruitiness seems to be from the hops only, but there is a light fruitiness present with a very, very light banana ester. Aftertaste is hops...go figure... and has a dry finish. Fuller medium body, moderate carbonation, and a very smooth m/f. I'm not an Am. IPA fan, but this is very well made and drinkable in quantity which is a nice change from my normally malt driven palate.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2004 Pours brown/red color with medium offwhite head. The aroma is great- berries on top of carmel malt, smells delicious. The taste is great- the malt really stands out, the bitterness really stands out, the alcohol really stands out... but yet there is still a decent balance to this beer... complex and sophisticated. This beer is over the top. Very strong alcohol content, strong hop flavor, potent malt. I love it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A redish brown color with little head. Aroma is a balance of malt and hops, and the hop aroma is a nice clean smell. There was a bitterness, but it was by no means overpowering. The hops seem to balance well with the presence of a carmel malt that smooths out and makes a slight sweetness more noticable as the beer warms up.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Somewhere between ruby red and earth brown with no head. It has a sweet, malty nose with a hop presence in the background. Full on the palate with a malty sweetness in the middle that gives way to a nice hop sizzle on the end. There is a slight caramel presence as well. The first touch on the tongue of each sip is very bitter and alcohol-laden, but the sweetness of the middle balances this out nicely. Different flavors jump to the forefront and background as the beer warms up. Excellent offering.
