COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Very dark color, lots of aroma, lots of flavor. Man this was good. A bit heavy and strong to have one after the other, but savoring one on occasion is a definite must.

Pours a brilliant deep red/garnet color with little, but persistent, head. The aroma is strong as hell, but just fantastic. Hoppy (pine, citrus, perfume) with sweet malt (peaches, apricot, caramel, vanilla). The flavor is almost equally as good, but not quite. A long, warming finish with plenty of bitterness. A great beer indeed.

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2008 this ostentacious bastard sprang forth, a vivacious tawny torrent of lightly cloudy liquid bravado. the cashew colored head muscled through a quick and elegant kata of fluffy foam, then stepped aside as if gunfighters were approaching. then we went nose to nose, the arrogant one and i. the aroma struck fast--i’d scarcely lifted the glass--and slapped me with a blast of mango rich hop resin, linzertort and brandy, all raw and ready to flambé. i shook off the blow and sniffed again, but sinuous undulating notes of orange pekoe and hemlock sap left me reeling-- and yet strangely euphoric--like i’d been packed in a barrel of hop flavored massage oil with sandra bullock and rolled down a steep slope. i managed a sip, but again lost my footing as a huge caramel sweetness blew past my left and chattering tangy hops dragged their claws down my right. diminutive stars and cartoon tweety birds circled my head as a fogbank of alcohol descended on the part of my cerebellum associated with random cognitive recall, like what planet i currently reside upon. still flailing helplessly, the hops sprang on me again and bit me like a rabid wolverine launched from a catapult! texas ruby grapefruit on the tongue, a radiant buzz and a grin were what remained of my senses... i was pummeled and wasted by this encounter, yet blithely i still consider myself the winner. hic.

Nice copper color with a modest light tan head that clings to the side of the glass as you partake. Orange citrus aroma with a hint of malt. Sharp, somewhat citric, with a touch floral hops bite starts and carries throughout the quaff. After that the malt comes to play and play it does. Smooth caramel, toffee, mocha, and a bit doughy - just outstanding. So few brewers understand the true importance of quality malts and hops. Slightly warming towards the finish. This is one of the few "heavyweight" brews that could be my everyday choice. Unfortunately, I have to send away to get this one on my porch step. Thanks Mr. AB for producing this quality quaff.

Money. This beer has excellent malting, with a nice bit of bitterness. Just excellent flavor. Starts off a bitter and and finishes smooth. One of the best ales I’ve ever had. Nobody is worthy.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2004 BAM! Bitter hops that make your writhe in pain are the first impression that you get while drinking this. This is one mean beer. It's rich red in color with a thick fluffy head. The hops are so hard that they hurt. As a warning - do NOT drink this after another beer. Make sure that your pallette is clean. This is liquid bread. If you like hopped-up American ales, then this is for you. This is king. If you prefer maltier, smoother tastes, then you will probably hate this. Despite the hard-hitting initial taste, it finishes off with a fair fruity/malty taste. Definately not for the weak.

Very dark amber with nice head upon pour. VERY nice flowery aroma from the hops. Verry bitter in the first sip. Leaving the classic sting on the sides of your tongue (as good strong ales do). The more you sip it mellows out in one of the most balanced ales I’ve tasted. First a sting of bitter then a plesant sweet and fruity taste finishing off with with that long lasting after taste I love about ales. I definately rate this as one of the best beers I’ve tasted. You will be amazed for shure for an American Ale.

This beer has a strong aroma with notes of alcohol mixed in with a hoppy nose. Beautiful dark red color with a malty body to match. This beer attacks your tongue, momentarily twisting it in directions that it is not normally prone to go. What a bastard! This beer’s flavor lasts, a hefty one it is. Always good, never matched!

Great looker. Rich red, nice head. Maltier, nuttier nose than I expected. Somehow, it’s coming off a bit less arrogant and much more sopisticated than expected. Probably my favorite of the Stone big ales so far.
