This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Dark mahogany or cherrywood in color. Thinly veiled tan head covering the contents of the glass. Nose full of hops and citrus fruit with brown sugar and malt poking through. The taste can best be described as sweetened grapefruit with malt and a splash of sea salt in the background. Remarkably smooth finish considering this is somewhat of a bitter beer. Well done! Stone continues to impress me.

Solid deep brown chestnut in color, magnificent head of yellow cream thats tight, spongy froth about a half inch high and fades some to leave a solid ring and very sticky, super finely stitched lacing. Smell is deep roasted malts, some dark fruit of raisin and fig and a solid backing of earthy hops lending citrus and pine. Taste is rich, earthy, full of sweet dark roasted maltyness and solid earthy hops. One incredibly balanced "bastard" of on ale. Feel is full bodied creamyness, a bit buttery in front with a solid hop grab texture and excellent lingering piney bittered dryness into the finish. Everything about this beer states attitude and quality, hence its arrogance. I just love the bottle, the gargoyle is super cool, and the powerful, gutsy statement on the back is a true mark of a rebellious warrior in the war of brewing.

Ugh! Aggressive malt and a hop that can't compete leave the tasting experience pretty mediocre. The AB hangover is a common experience if you have 2 or more. Worth a taste because of its unusual characteristic, but the Stone IPA and Double Bastard (and Ruination) are much better beers...

My favorite beer to date! I've found that it's flavor varies significantly with temperature. It should not be served as cold as lagers and as Americans are used to having beers served. At that temperature, it's is incredibly hoppy, perhaps overpoweringly so. Yet, as the beer warms, it sweetens in your mouth, filling your tongue with many flavors, both sweet and bitter at the same time. Its complex palate inspires you to drink more, just to figure out what those flavors are... A true tragedy that this beer is not widely available on the east coast!

I had this on tap at school. It's strong flavored with a bitter aftertaste. It was defintely worth trying, although I probably won't be ordering it frequently.

the name says it all. this is a unique ale with strong flavors. Everything seems exagerated but it does work nicley. Like thier glass said fizzy yellow beer is for wussies!

One of my all-time favorites. A staple in my beer/wine cellar. Nice hoppy nose with a pervasive sweetness. The deep, almost burgundy color screams excessive malt and its appearance matches its flavor profile: rich, sweet malt with aggressive hops. The high hop content compliments the powerful flavor of this beer resulting in an easy to drink beer that will sneak up on the unwary.

Nice brew. Had this a while back. Dark colored and medium to thin-bodied. Strong hop character here and seemed overall dry, but very tasty. Surprisingly smooth for the way this assaults your tastebuds. Liked this one a lot, and I have to agree with the others who've said this one comes in a brilliant bottle.

I've been waiting for years to have the opportunity to try this much heralded ale and I was not disappointed. This ale is everything it is hyped up to be and more. The flavors are such that they just need to be experienced, not talked about. So get out there and try it. This is also one of my favorite bottles in my collection; an added benefit!

With a lovely, dark rasberry color and yeasty aroma (do I detect a hint of sweet, tart fruit in the nose, or is it just suggested by the amazing color?), this is a complex, hoppy, sweet (delicate, not syrupy), and creamy ale - simply wonderful!
