Pours light brown. very bitter initially but once it crosses your palate there is a long, light bitter and citrus finish. Could be better balanced with its other flavors. mhelgason (495), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 26, 2008 Classic descriptor on the back; you won’t like it; it’s too good for you. You’re not worthy. Pours a dark, rich red with a long lasting head in the ABA glass I picked up in San Francisco. Aroma is slightly fruity with strong hops, nuttiness. I taste sweet caramel with berries then chocolate, nuts, grass; it is a bit harsh and rough around the edges, but safe to assume this is the intention. Sweet and (need I mention) bitter finish. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 25, 2008 same rusty amber apearance as the oaked with a large creamy tan head on top. viscous pour. sweet fruity caramel and hop aroma. light notes of pear, pine, toffee, and even chocolate. flavors of resiny orange pine hops and bready malt. not as bitter and dry as the oaked but more sweet. full bodied. alcohol is well hidden compared to some ASA’s. finishes with a clean herbal-like aftertaste both of these(bastard, oaked bastard) were excellent, if not my favorites, of the style. doboy (177), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 25, 2008 At a Stone Beer Tasting at Priscilla’s in Morehead City, NC. oured a golden copper color wth a short lived head that laced nicely. Great nose. Sweet malt with just the right amount of hoppiness and excellent bitering on the back side. think I liked the oaked batter! EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 21, 2008 Poured a rich golden brown color with a short lived but thick off white head. Drinkable, with standard sweet malts and grassy hops, with alcohol ever present. Finishes with a short lived bitter aftertaste. A very enjoyable beer, that I am glad to have tried, and would be happy to drink again, just not something I would go out of my way to find.
