sja14 (105), Ohio, USA Jun 22, 2008 Pours a deep red color and smells of hoppy sweetness with a hint of alcohol. Ours a great creamy head with nice lacing. Very complex. Fully body taste with a good malt/hop balance. Good beer. swanmann (304), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Jun 21, 2008 Updated: Apr 1, 2009The bottle poured deeeep caramel with ruby hues and sticky blonde head. Aroma mostly of dark roasted malts, mild chocolate notes. This is an incredibly smooth brew with lush body, toasty bitterness, and mild anesthetic, numbing hops. Bigmmartin (366), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jun 21, 2008 Draft sample at Bier Tasting event at Boston’s Bistro & Pub in Dayton.
I guess I’m worthy because I love this beer. A wonderful American ale. Dark in color and strong in aroma and flavor. More bitter than you might expect, but great balance. 12many (231), Ohio, USA Jun 21, 2008 Well I did like it. Burgundy pour with a lot malt character mixed very well with a lot hops as well. Hard to dislike. tarc (47), New Jersey, USA Jun 19, 2008 Dark red-Amber color, Medium head, Powerful oaky aroma which continued with the taste. Bitterness and oak over powers the malt.
Great name, but not sure I’m in love...
zerobrew (6), , Texas, USA does not count Jun 19, 2008 First off, I love the right up on the bottles... I think they wrote it just for me. Drank one five days ago from 22oz bottle poured into brandy-like Duvel glass. Medium head, lightly colored, disipated slowly. Dark red color to the beer. Powerful floral aroma backed by citrus notes is amazing but washes out the malt aroma for me. First taste was a slap in the mouth. I can tell there is sweetness in there but its just so citrusy bitter (and I mean pith bitter, not the rind.) The bitterness lingers, making me forget the mouth feel. If you like french-pressed hop tea, you’ll love this brew... I’m just not sophisticated enough to appreciate it. ewestern (198), Ohio, USA Jun 19, 2008 Nice deep red pour with a small head. Aroma and taste are sweet and smooth and a slight bitterness that hangs on. A nice malty citrus feel on the tongue. flatmatt (221), Northville, Michigan, USA Jun 17, 2008 22 oz bottle. Crimson pour with smallish tan head. Aroma of some citrusy hops and a little sweetness. Taste is bitterness primarily, grapefruit hops, caramel, spiciness. Lingering bitter finish. Very nice.
