This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

I dig this beer mostly for its color. The taste is really bold. I bought a 22 oz bottle and it took me awhile to drink it. As it warmed up towards the end of the bottle, the malts came though and I got this cool coffee-like subdued flavor. I've had this beer before and I'll certainly have it again.

On draught. Amber in colour. Malty aromas with big hits of hop. Malty and hoppy in spades with a long lasting bitter finish. I really liked this beer.

Enjoy By 09/03/15 bu 30 janvier 2016... Wow

Hoppy aroma, not overpowering, but well balanced. Beautiful caramel color, with translucent hue. Smooth hop flavor with lasting sense on palate. Pleasure to enjoy, hot or cold.

From tap at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam. Aroma is big malt, plenty of caramel, toffee, hops, pine resin, fruits, tropical notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and heavily bitter. Body is above medium. Heavy and big beer, strong rich malty and bitter. Vey enjoyable.

Appearance: clear medium to deep amber with one fat finger of dense light tan head, good retention and lacing. (5/5) Aroma: caramel/toffee, pine, citrus, tobacco, mild vanilla, hint of spicy rye. (10/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, strong bitter. (10/10) Palate: medium-full body, moderate carbonation, lingering bitter finish. (5/5) Well, on the one hand, this is probably a fresher version than my prior experience with this beer, making the hops much more emphatic. On the other, I’ve had a lot more experience since first giving this a perfect score. I’ll be honest: it’s tough being unbiased here now. It’s definitely not “perfect” - for example, the lacing could be better-defined. But, is that a flaw that justifies dropping a whole point, from 5/5 to 4/5? I don’t (quite) think so. Same goes for some of the minor character flaws in the aroma and flavour. And for obvious reasons, some (most?) people will find it too aggressive, while I, as a major hop-head, don’t. At the end of the day, It’s close enough to perfect that my subjective single point penalty here in the overall doesn’t affect the final score. (19/20)

650 ml bottle from the LCBO.

Appearance: Pours a clear dark amber brown with next to no head. That said, there is a bit of lacing left behind.

Aroma: Malt, custard.

Flavours: Malt, caramel, toffee, hint of grapefruit with a very slight bitterness on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Average viscosity with lower carbonation.

Overall: A nice ale with malty flavours coming through but it also has a hint of citrus with some grapefruit coming out. I found this one to be fairly easy drinking. This bottle was just slightly past its best by date so I suspect the hops might have been more intense if it were fresher.
