This beer is AWESOME!!..Beautiful deep amber with a delicous tan head. To me this beer smells somewhat fruity. Deliciously smooth but still with a bite. Awesome beer. I’m lucky to be able to get this anywhere here in Phoenix..

Awesome brew excellent hop pine citrus aroma, big hop character, nice malty, only reason didn’t give t aste a perfect is a little too much caramel for me. Others may like it more...just my two pennies, other than that excellent beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a dark cherry red , slightly cloudy with a nice dense tan head. Excellent lacing and head retention. Reeks of hops, with some cereal grain style malts going on, smells sticky (toffee). Taste is big and bold hops balanced out by the candy/caramel malts, some underlying stone fruit flavors. The bitterness is unrelenting, which is fine by me!

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Market Basket, Epping NH. Aroma is mostly hoppy with slight basement smell
Appearance is beautiful reddish amber with large, persistent, off white, foamy head with excellent lacing. Taste is more bitter than sweet, owing to the hops, and is a hair more hoppy than I tend to like but it’s not over the edge. Palate is medium bodied with light carbonation noted at the tip of the tongue. Pleasant long finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle to shaker glass. Pours clear deep amber/red, quick one finger off white hear. Nice lacing and retention. Aroma of smoked malt and pine. Taste is slightly sweet caramel but predominately bitter. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, resin oil mouth feel. Finishes long and bitter. Tasting notes of pine, apricot, smoked malts, caramel, burnt sugar and coffee. A very complex beer worthy of it’s reputation as a bitter strong ale.

Not something i would have bought my self so was glad to review the bastard box set for the holidays. Not one who enjoys overly hoppy beers. This beer is full of aggressive hops. The level of malt in it keeps this beer tolerable for me while still focusing heavily on the hops. I can understand why these beers appeal to craft beer drinkers who like hops. Just not my thing.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2015 Bottle from Haskells. Consumed in Moeder Lambic glass. Forgot how dark this one pours. Copper/amber. Minimal head. Aroma has some sweet elements but pine/citrus/hops come on strong. Gives way to a blast of hops that grabs you by the taste buds and never lets go. Basically a hop filled ride with resiny aftertaste. It definitely owns its hop commitment. Mouthfeel is cloying. You don’t want to drink this before other beers. It doesn’t play well in the sandbox.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Haskells with commonmac. Dark mahogany with small head. Smells hoppy. Very drying, powerful hop taste . Strong hop dominates but finish is nice. Tiny bit of roasted malt but not as much as expected. Maybe some subtle syrupy elements. Could definitely tell this was a stone beer. Powerful and arrogant for sure.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Keg at Brewdog Manchester. A clear deep ruby amber colour with a fizzy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruits like red grape and plum, nuts, sweet caramel and some spice. Taste of dark fruits, caramel, sugar, roasted malt, some grapefruit, earthy bitterness and alcohol. Full bodied, soft carbonation and an oily texture. A bittersweet, fruit hop finish. A well balanced, flavourful beer. Similar to a hoppy barley wine. Nice but lacks that special something.
