JFURYCAT (711), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 22, 2006 This isn’t the first time I’ve had this beer but I appreciate it now much more than when I had it at a beer fest years ago. The bitter hoppy finish seems to glide on through, leaving me scant time to appreciate its rose-like floral bouquet which to me is the bonus part of this beer. That bonus is a bit overshadowed by the bitterness. The aroma seems to some character too but the malty character seems to subdue its potential exuberence. The overall aggressiveness of this beer isn’t bad but it seems a tad unbalanced to me as far as the hops are concerned.
SoCaliente (2), Thousand Oaks, California, USA does not count Sep 6, 2008 Don’t let the name fool you. Nothing is arrogant or by-blow with this choice nectar.
This deep auburn colored ale lures you in much like that athletic tomboy girl next door clad in her hoodie. And the stripped down head reminds you of how you’d like to get her.
Once you raise the glass close to your face, your nose grabs onto her malty bread dough sweetness.
She baits you with her sweet-as-breath flavor and then hooks you with a light bitterness, like a good wry Scottish wit leaves you slaked.
As she enters your mouth, her creamy thick
full body brings you to seventh heaven, wanting her kiss to last and last. And she delivers with her long finish.
This is one authentic Strong American Ale who you can fall in love with each time you date her.
NomDeBeer (149), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Sep 5, 2008 Aroma is mostly citrus hops. Mahogony color with a small but lasting white head. Taste is caramel and citrus hops, smooth bitter finish. Soft mouthfeel that is very smooth. After taste is great; long and bread-like. MatSciGuy (185), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Sep 5, 2008 [Bottle] Pours a beautiful clear ruby/caramelly brown with a medium beige head. Aroma is citric hops, caramel, raisins and some grass. Flavor is quite raisin-y with a significant residual hop bitterness. Really a nice beer. jstraw (438), Oak Park, Illinois, USA Sep 5, 2008 Dark amber with big, foamy tan head / Soft, malty, bready nose / Full body, sweet malts, chewy, with a little dry touch on the long finish / Flavors of burnt sugar, coffee, and dry pine, with notes of grapefruit / Complex, superb. jameswolfe (95), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 4, 2008 Kind of looks brown,. clear, and boring in the glass. But the citrusy aroma and flavor packs quite a punch. What I really like is the thick creamy feeling as it sets in your mouth. Good brew.
