4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep clear amber/ruby with 2 fingers of off-white pillowy head. Aroma is big on the grapefruits and pine. Taste is some subtle malts that are hidden behind the hops. Long, clean bitter finish. Truth be told, if you blindfolded me and gave me this beer, I would say I was drinking an IPA. Bitterness is more intense than most IPA’s, even. The bottle is right in that this is not for beginners, even though this is Stone’s de facto flagship beer. Reasonably priced at 3.99-4.99 a 22oz bomber.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at tasting. Copper color. Aroma of caramelised malt and pine mostly. Simple taste of caramel, malt, pine and a dry grassy finish. Nice, but really overrated.

On tap at Prince Alfred Hotel, Ipswich. Copper in colour with a frothy head and nice lacing. Rich malt profile with a strong bitter palate that make it one strong brew as advertised. One to be savoured.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A deep red beer with a beutiful head. The aroma is sweet with notes of alcohol and berries. The flavor is very complex with notes of cowberries, grass and enourmous amounts of hops which makes the end extremely grassy and dry. A wonderful beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Visual: Pours deep translucent reddish-brown with a gorgeous super frothy lasting head, very sticky thick lacing, 2mm retention, barely any activity - a bubble here and there.
Nose: light toasted caramel malts, a touch of booze, citrusy hop cones. (lvl-3)-pungency
Attack: immediate biting bitter hops, silky-micro bubbly feel
Mid-palate: metallic, (lvl-4)-sweetness, (MAIN) toffee malts, brown sugar, pine hops
Finish: bold hoppy bitter dryness, grass, bitter finish.
Summary: Full-bodied, great texture, bold bitter hops, sweet malty mids = overall great balance and complexity to keeps you sipping and flavour searching. Could be a little less aggressively bitter at the finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bold hoppiness with a semi dry finish. I know I’ve had it before, but am surprised I haven’t rated it before.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Aggressive beer this is indeed! Nice mahogany colour but that’s all that’s going for it, extremely heavy mouthfeel, rough tastes of pine, sour grapefruit and hops as strong as turpentine. Couldn’t finish it.
