22 oz. bottle poured into tulip glass. Nice dark burgundy copper color. Decent tan head. Bitter flavor upfront followed by well blended notes of grass, floral and coffee. Super great beer, always a favorite.

Solid. There's not much more I can say than what others have said. Recommended.

Another uber bitter ale from Stone. Kind of a dark version of the ruination ale. Has a slight scent of raisins and bourbon. The body is quite bitter and grassy. Bitterness increases even further in the aftertaste and leaves an impression of ash on your tongue. Not really my cup of beer.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
There was quite a bit of smoke with this beer. The beer poured a red amber with a thick khaki head that left a lot of lacing. The aroma is strong hops, slight sweet caramel, grass, and citrus. The taste is very bitter as imagined. It has a grassy, almost chewy texture to it. I also pick up some slight alcohol. I also pick up an oak aftertaste.

Not my number one stone brew but it's extremely solid and lives up to their hyper aggressive hop reputation. Delicious, but I can probably just do one.

22 oz bottle, how on earth have i not rated this classic beer yet, for years i just assumed i had- Pours mostly clear ruby red to orange with a thin white head. Aroma is lightly sweet, pronounced bitterness and hops, spicy rye. The taste is similar, with more of both, nice balance between the bitter bite and the big malt, the hops they use here are somewhat harsh, brash, being Stone this is undoubtedly what they were going for though. This is by no means my preferred style, but i can definitely appreciate its complexities.

Smells like caramel and fig, syrupy resin. Aggressive hops backed up by big malt flavors. A one-two Tyson in his prime combo. A stand by me

Tried in a goblet and a craft pint. In the craft pint, taste and smell reminded me of an IPA. In the goblet it was very good. Too hoppy for me. But i really like the mouth feel. Not a favorite but hey at least I tried it.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Poured from a bomber into a tulip on 08.21.14.
A: Sour. Malt sweetness as a base. Caramel is there too.
A: 2 finger off-white/yellow head. Nearly opaque red body.
T: Sourness dominates. Bitter hops and metal are more subtle.
P: I didn’t care enough to notice.
O: Sourness is first, then sweet malt, bitterness, and a fade into sweetness. It was complex and weird. It had a lingering annoyingly sharp bitterness along with a flavor of metal. This was not for me. Drain pour.
