This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Dark translucent ruby-brown. Tan head with huge sudsy bubbles and fizzy legs. Smells of candied sugar, roast malt, some musty grassiness, some molasses and butterscotch. My description makes it sound overly sweet but it isn't. Taste is much more bitter than the aroma, candied malt, lemon, spice. Body is light but with a bit of slickness, dry, crisp, very smooth. Complex with lots of flavour without being overwhelmingly big. Lots of malt matched with lots of bitterness (esp. in taste).

Bottle from QClub at home. Copper pour with thick slightly tan head. Slightly lighter than root beer. Aroma is ginger biscuit malty with some pine resin hops. Taste is very malty which hides the very piney/resiny bitterness (very SD/west coast style hoppiness). Very bitter finish with a bit of sweet malts. Lasts. Really good.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber poured into a pint glass . Color of a dirty penny, massive tan head. Aroma of pine, citrus with a hint of toffee. A hint of bitterness in the flavor. Seems to be missing something. Thin body, lively carbonation with a bitter finish. It’s a decent beer that seems to be readily available year around. Not my favorite in the category, but I liked the bottles label.

Poured from an oversized bottle. Pours dark copper with a tan head. Nose is brown sugar, roasted malts, and hints of dried dark fruit. Flavour is more bitter than the nose suggests with notes of baker's dark chocolate, grapefruit, lemon, caramel, and brown sugar. Moderate mouthfeel.

On tap at Rogue on West Broadway in Vancouver. Served in a 10 oz glass and re-poured into a large snifter. A very dark copper coloured beer with generous tan head. Bitter hop nose. This is a very bitter and hoppy beer, but with very mellow malt and fruit notes as well. All in all a very mellow beer, but the sharp hop note remains. Unusual in a good way! 4.0.

En fût au Brothers. Rousse. Belle mousse beige. Ronde. Grain torréfié. Noisette. Mielleuse. Belle amertume. Fruits secs (raisin, abricot). Malté sans être sucré. Fine chaleur d'alcool. Finale sèche et boisé. Très bien.

Taste: very tasty and sweet sensation. Good malt balance and brown sugar notes. Hoppy taste and good caramel balance. Aftertaste: caramel and brown sugar with finish alcohol. Very good beer, a must to try!
The same day, I tasted the 2005 Edition on tap. Color: darker than the normal one with no carbonation and no head. Smell: higher concentation of sugar and caramel. Notes of wood and caramel. Resine. Taste: explosion and harder than the normal one. Resine and sugar taste. Very oily sensation. Aftertaste: alcohol and caramel finish.

On tap at Brothers Beer Bistro (Ottawa, ON). Dark brown, hazy body with a lasting beige frothy/creamy head. Rich malty/hoppy aroma with woody, brown sugar, yeasty, ans spicy hints. Its robust, sharp hoppy taste carries malty, herbal, citrusy, and oaky notes. Ends with a long bitter finish. Bang on!

On tap at corporate brewhouse that makes me want to slit my wrists. But hey, at least they have Arrogant Bastard. Great deep copper color, bitter as hell but in the best possible way. Toasted cereal and hops. Great palate. I just wish this beer had less alcohol as I want to drink copious amounts and I fear tomorrows headache!
