This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

This was the first craft beer I ever tried, which was about 3 years ago, and I remember thinking it tasted like tree bark. I couldn’t get past a few sips from the bottle. Now that I’m older I feel as if I can fully appreciate this beast. Hoppy aroma with some pine scents. When you drink it, it starts nice and smooth and sweet with said pine notes and some minor lemony and grapefruity flavors as well, but then you begin to notice the carbonation and the flavor profile quickly shifts to bitter and remains that way for the finish. It’s this quick flavor shift quality that makes this beer really complex and interesting to me. I love the appearance of this beer. Hold it up to a light source. It’s blood red with a nice thick head. Great beer that’s fun to drink at parties.

I call it Mahogany Mike as in Tyson. Walks right out and punches you right in the taste buds. Awesome color. Rich. Complex. Sneaky abv content. The 22oz is just about enough for one sitting. Not for amateurs. Maybe a little hoppy? Read the label. Nuff said. Wish Id said all that. All hail Stone! Try all of em. But not in one night unless you need a laxative...

Amber pour with an aroma of citrus and hops. Strong hop and sweet malts and citrus, with a bitter dry finish, quite good.

Poured from a bottle. Deep brown with a hint of red. Tan head. Not much aroma. Slight fruity smell. Very creamy mouthfeel. Hard to describe taste, but good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a 1 pint 6 oz bottle. Appearance - Murky, murky dark brown body. Smell - Toasted maltiness with ample dark fruity alcohol. Taste - hops and more hops. Very complex. Medium body. A very aggressive beer with big flavors.

Poured from a 20 oz bottle. Dark amber color with lots of head. The active carbonation provides consistent head and a flurry of bubbles that dance their way up to the top. The first sip brings flavors of malt and a certain bite that lasts. Has a fairly bitter finish, which I was not expecting.

Poured from 1 pint 6 fl oz bottle. Clear, copper brown with beige head. Aroma of toasted malt, slightly nutty. Taste of resinous hops, quite bitter finish. Medium plus body. Good mouthfeel, but a little overwhelmed with the resinous-ness.

22oz from the COOP, but all the bottleshops and even grocery stores carry it now. Huge 2" tan head that came out of the glass and left behind beautiful lacing. The brew looks walnut brown until held to a light revealing deep cherry red... pretty for sure. Aroma is a good balance between American hops and caramel and toasted malts... some fruitiness.. more refined than I remember. Full flavored obviously.. citrus and pine hops shine but are shadowed perfectly buy the big malt flavors... pretty brutal bitterness. Leans toward the sweet side with caramel and toasty malts... a touch of milk chocolate is highlted by the sorta creamy mouthfeel. Big and brash across the board.. AB leaves nothing to guess... it is Big. It is a beer I unfortunately always overlook/take for granted... I really should buy it more often.
