This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Biggish beige lasting head. Deep dark red body. Strong fruity malty aroma with roasty wild berry notes. Dry-sweet malty raisiny wild berry taste with dusty roasty chocolate notes. Some alcohol, too. Full body. Sharpish mouthfeel, probably bitterness, with some alcohol heat. Dry peppery roasty toffee caramel malts aftertaste with citric notes. Very sweet. Excellent. Rather like a huge top-fermented doppelbock. The alcohol, sweet malts, and the bitterness crash together to some degree. (0.65l bottle at Olympen, Oslo.)

1 pint, 6 oz. bottle@Olympen,Oslo. A mostly lasting dense yellow head upon a translucent, reddish-brown colored body. Aroma has a strong earthy, grassy and piny hoppiness, (almost) balanced by some toasted dark malts and a scent of toffee/cream-caramel. Taste is dominated by earthy and piny bittering hops. Sour- sweet maltiness underneath. Notes of citrus and spices. Mouthfeel is quite sharp, bordering to astringency. Medium body strenght. A powerful and punchy one, and certainly rough on the palate.

Can you handle the arrogance? The brewers deScription of this beer on the back of the bottle is the greatest I’v ever read, funny and just insulting enough to keep the faint of hart away leaving more for the true beer drinker. The beer pours a dark, dark cloudy brown with hints of red around the edge of the glass, a thick but short tan colored head lasted the entire length of the beer and left some impressive lacing. The smell is yeast hops and grape fruit, it was a fairly subtle aroma and could have been stronger. The taste like the aroma was pretty simple yeast, hops, and grape fruit that blend together for a creamy taste. The moth feel is soft and tangy and there is a bitter after taste left in your mouth. You can tell this a high quality beer and is very enjoyable, its just pretty simple tasting and maybe a touch over hoped for the style.

Rusty colored pour with a creamy eggshell head that left a significant amount of lacing. Aroma is of caramel, sweet malt, and candied citrus. Flavor is fairly well balanced, although not as aggressive/assertive/arrogant as it’s older brother...has a similar profile of dark fruit, hops, and alcohol. Tasty beer...surprised I hadn’t rated it before.

12 pack of bombers. Poured dark brown, almost reminded me of a stout. Had a serious bite, and the abv had me sweating by the time I finished the bottle. This is one that I will share with a friend next time I crack one open.

22 oz bottle. Copper colored, smells of raisins. Pours an awesome head that retains itself throughout. "This is an aggressive brew"...you know the rest. Is there anything more badass than this beer? Though I love the attitude, I can think of many greater brews. Still, this beer is a pioneer in the Strong Ale category, and will always be world-class. Nobody messes with this beer, and for good reason.

Deep amber brown color with ruby hints and a small tan head with moderate lacing. Malty aroma with hints of wood/smoke and some hops. Well attenuated mouthfeel with hop bitterness and some alcohol detectable.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2011 Re-rated (1/14/11) Poured from 22oz bombsaway - Quite hoppy brew. I like the hop selection. Perhaps a little too hoppy. Malts are a bit buried, but pleasant. Overall a good brew that will not receive my top marks.

Had two pints at the Falling Rock Tap House in downtown Denver. Reminded me of another ale that I have really enjoyed but I can’t remember which one (Bell’s Hopslam?). I’m not into paying big money for single bottles of beer but if you are this would certainly be worth trying.
