17thfloor (581), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 5, 2008 Updated: May 15, 2008 Pours dark ruby brown with a medium frothy tan head that forms some craters. Sweet vinous, nutty, hoppy aroma with some alcohol and woody notes. First taste is very bitter and dark... deeply roasted/burned malt and extremely bitter hops that aren’t particularly flavorful. Some dark fruits, but mostly like eating burnt caramel on the bottom of the pot. Nice sophisticated palate, fluffy medium/full body, slightly syrupy. Its a well crafted brew, however, I’ve never had a beer packed with so much flavor be so boring.... I’m going to go burn a bag a popcorn so I have a flavor compliment... ok thats harsh =p I wonder how one of these would taste with 2 years of age on it?
kosko20 (21), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Jul 17, 2008 Aggressive is right! Like punching you in the jaw. Loved it, very bitter but somehow very balanced throughout. I want more. Yes, very complex to where its hard to figure out all the flavors and aromas. xShanex (18), Mansfield, Texas, USA Jul 17, 2008 Outstanding. Pours a rich amber with great color. Head is carmel and healthy. Smell is of fruits and is delightful. The complexity of the taste is almost overwhelming consisting of a few different fruits including grape and I do agree with pineapple. Complex yet balanced with a bitter but refreshing finish. Great beer and packs a pretty good punch. Have another? MANY! gameface23 (25), Haverhill, Massachusetts, USA Jul 16, 2008 Wow! A dark amber body with a tan head that dissipated quickly. I was smelling a strong pineapple/citrus nose with plenty of hops, but other people disagreed with me about the pineapple. A big, yet balanced, taste finished off one of the best beers I have ever had. AdamSkillin (363), High Bridge, New Jersey, USA Jul 16, 2008 I absolutely lack the qualities of sophistication, palate, and taste to appreciate a beer of this caliber. Very flavorful in every aspect (read: big but balanced), you are a vile waste of human protoplasm if you don’t like this beer. Lt_Col_Catsup (6), New York, New York, USA does not count Jul 16, 2008 Not much aroma coupled with a dark color. Tasted like every other dark bitter ale I’ve ever had. Nice ABV, but I’d go for the double arrogant to deal with the bitter taste for the buzz.
