3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep brown body with a thick tan head that leaves considerable lacing. Malty sweet aroma with notes of caramel, brown sugar, and a hint of hops. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Very engaging flavor and ever-changing. Throughout, the caramel and brown sugar sweetness is there. Then thereís hints of dark fruit, burnt sugar, and finally pine and bitter grapefruit at the end. I hope Iím good enough for this beer because I like it.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle in the dining room again.
Pours a dark amber with a huge head and nice lacing on the glass.
The aroma is hop forward with some pine and some citrus. Itís got a big bunch of caramel sweetness and some bug spray going on there as well. The alcohol is noticeable but not overpowering. Cohesive enough, but not really something I find especially inviting.
The flavor is really just a lot of stuff crammed together, this is how Iíve always felt about this beer and I go back time and time again to see what Iím missing out on. Itís all bitter and sweet and Itís got lots of crystal malt, itís got a pronounced roastiness, lots of grapefruit, lots of bitterness, lots of leafy hops, lots of pine. Nothing really plays nicely, everything is just brash and feels random.
I mean, itís a classic of the style (Imperial Amber I guess...) but thatís not a style of beer I like. It seems like the marketing pulls in a lot of young beer drinkers as a gateway thing, and yeah... if you can get "into" this then youíre ready to tackle the broad world of craft beer, but yeah.... itís just never been my thing.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Strong 'bastard' of a beer. Three of five people who tried hated and two (myself included) like a lot. A strong ale with an unapologetic palate. Not sure the makeup or type but seems a great beer to stick with all night long as could ruin the palate for other beers.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a bottle. Pours a translucent dirty brown with a medium sized light tan foamy head that dissipates quickly leaving a thing ring which clings to the glass. Aroma isnít very strong just a hint of malts and a semi sweet toffee. Not much flavor to start. Seems to be more flavor in the aftertaste. After you swallow you get a somewhat bitter dryness on the roof of the mouth. Not too bitter or harsh but not really anything special. I had hope for something a little better especially from Stone. Iíd drink it again but wonít go out of my way to buy it.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This ale pours a dark amber with a thin head, a great aroma of berries, almost floral. The initial taste mirrored the aroma and then the hops aggressively take over. smooth finish but bitter lingering aftertaste. This is a good ale, its very solid, and its worth trying.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not really sure how I haven't rated this before. From the bomber into a shaker glass. Reddish amber with a tan head. Aroma is bready malt, some sweetness, and some earthy hops. Flavor is similar, bready malt base with earthy hops. Haven't had this in quite a while and it's either milder than I remember or I've got lupulin threshold shift to blame. Definite bitterness throughout, but somehow has an underlying creamy quality as well. Still a solid brew for sure, but interesting to see how tame this seems now compared to so many other beers.
