This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Bottled, consumed 02/26/08. Pours a molasses/burnished color, plenty of carbonation, nice head that lingers a while. Aroma is strong grapefruity hops with a note of barely-sweet caramel malt. Flavor has more malt than I remembered, but only for a split second before the gigantic hop monster appears on the palate. Massive bitterness and resiny grapefruit/pine hop character obliterate anything even close ot balance or subtlety. Goes down with a huge lingering bitterness (traces of vegetable/earthy hop flavor as well). Did I mention it’s hoppy?

Excellent. Bottle from Stone Sampler bought at Father and Sons. Pours hazy brown into a snifter. Bold caramel and malty aroma. Taste is huge. This is a great beer from a great brewery

I rate beers I think significantly better than average, simple as that. I am not into showing off through bloviating. :)

Pours a hazy brown with an off-white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, bread, citrus, fruit and hops. Taste is heavy sweet leading to a well balanced hoppy finish. Pretty awesome.

From a 650ml bottle on 13/7/2014 (shared with Butz). Pours a cloudy deep brown with a biggish off white head. Has a relatively subtle malty aroma featuring caramel and toffee. However, there’s nothing subtle about the flavour which is massive, rich, complex and impressive. This is a real all rounder in terms of character. There’s a ton of malt with caramel, butterscotch, toffee and toast, along with some spicy rye, some sweet citrus and dark fruit, peel, and bog load of big resiny, bitter hops to finish it off. Has a creamy texture and average carbonation. This actually tastes bigger than 7.2%. A magnificent beer.

Pours a reddish brown, hazy, and had a small khaki head. Aroma is very malty and sweet smelling. Some citrus fruit hops in the background as well. Taste is caramel, bread, roasted grains, grapefruit, and some lemon. Full body and good carb. Too much malts for me, but overall decent brew.

Look: pours a cloudy light brown or dark red. Head is thick and looks like something from a soda. Smell: fruity citrus aroma. Very sweet smell like a barleywine. Makes my mouth water. Dark fruit. Taste: bitter up front. Apples and other dark fruit. Lots of alcohol. Slight malt after taste. Feel: thick film on the mouth. Very dry. Medium to carbonation Overall: ok, not as fruity as I like. Definitely a stone beer. Similar to a hoppy barleywine.

Poured from a 650ml bottle, dark reddish brown, tan head, aroma is rasiny malt and spicy hops a little celery. Flavor is spicy hops with some pine, dark fruit flavor from the malt. Medium mouthfeel medium carbonation.

The beer has a beautiful dark ruby red hue with good clarity and a creamy light tan head. The thick creamy head has good retention and slowly fades to a thin cap of frothy foam. From this head I get lots of cool lacing and lace rings on the glass. It has a big juicy citrusy hop presence over nice bready maltiness in the background. There is a good solid mix of bready, caramely, grainy malt with loads of juicy of citrusy, grapefruity, lemony, and piney hop notes. The hops bring solid bitterness which slowly fades off the tongue deep into the finish. The palate has a firm yet still easy drinking texture with active carbonation and a good solid medium to full body.

A malt lovers dream, toasty, roasted, goodness. Caramel notes, with a nice hop bitterness without being overpowering. A really well balanced beer.

Good bitter ale, caramel flavor and good malt. Nice taste and would great again. Bitterness isn’t overpowering, but makes the beer unique.
