This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Fairly common in liquor stores, this is what American beer should be. Massive hop taste, lingering malts, nice colour. Head retention is substantial for a beer of this strength. It’s a brew that works well either with grilled meats or on its own. Not quite as smooth as its oaked counterpart, nor as godly as the annual Double Bastard, this is still an old standby.

Pours a dark mahogany with a foamy white head. Aroma is spicy, pine, and citrus hops, and bread and caramel malts. Flavor is caramel and toffee, with spicy and pine hops. Has lots of carbonation and moderate bitterness. This is a great beer and I appreciate how Stone has built a character around it.

Dark amber colour, big beige head. Aroma of caramel, spicy and piney hops, bread, dark fruits, toffee. Sweet bitter taste with light dryness and bitter hoppy finish and aftertaste. Medium body and average carbonation. Nice dark ale, good balance between sweet malts and aggressive hops.

(Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale) Can 500 ml at home, served into a shaker, ABV 7.2% Deep amber colour on the body, clear, with a good sized and thick tan head on top, good retention. Aroma of caramel, toffee, hops. Taste follows, caramel and toffee, cookies, good hop presence and a nice bitterness that becomes a sharp one on the finish. Medium body, good carbonation. Nice and very drinkable.

Rich, dark brown with beige head. Taste is also rich, roasty, full-bodied, with a nice balance of hops and malts. This beer Was my first strong ale when I got into craft beer. I still enjoy it.

Can. Dark amber, average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Moderate to full, malty and sweetish aroma, caramel, light fruitiness and some piney hoppyness and faint metal with light alcohol. Body is medium to full, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and light fruitiness with light - some piney hoppyness, light alcohol. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish, light caramel and faint fruitiness, light - some piney hoppyness, light alcohol. Way too sweet. Lacks character (as most strong ales do). Don’t believe the hype.

@ Havregatan 20160819. Can (500 ml) from Systembolaget. Fruity and malty, sweet, spicy and roasted notes, medium to full body with an oily texture. The finish is long, bitter and fruity.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2016 Fresh crowler from the main Stone brewery in San Diego. Many thanks to my good friend Paul. Dark ruby color. Good soapy thick head. Aroma of plums, wallnuts, whole grain bread, marginal ginger. Taste is bitter, bitter dark chocolate, very dry, dark bitter fruits. Strange beer. Not so tasty.

Cloudy ruby color with beige foam layer. Light creamy and forest hoppy nose. Too little carbonation with a very strong earthy bitterness and a little creamy mouth feeling. Hoppy finish and a very aggressive bitter aftertaste.
