This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

22oz bottle. Poured a murky deep copper with a touch of brown. Sticky caramel, toasted malt, raison bread, and hop make the nose. On mouth this ale is full bodied while creating a nice chewy malt coating with a hop cleansing finish.

Transfer from BA review on 2-23-13- Served on tap in a snifter glass Appearance-Served a mahogany colored brew with ruby highlights shining throughout. Upon serving there is a one finger cream colored head that fades rather quickly to leave a persistent film on the top of the brew and a very nice level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is a nice mix of bready malts, caramel, and a moderate hop aroma. The hop while mainly grapefruit citrus in nature is also mixed with aromas of a pine hop aroma as well. Taste – The taste begins with a bready and biscuit base with a lighter caramel sweetness. Up front there are also some hop flavors of a pine nature. The caramel fades as the taste advanced with the pine getting stronger and more potent. While the caramel fades, fruit flavors of a light cherry and apple flavor come to the tongue. While the pine levels out in the middle, it is joined by a lighter grapefruit citrus hop flavor. This citrus grows stronger more toward the end of the taste with it, when mixed with the rest of the flavors, leaving a bitter pine and citrus flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel-The body of the beer is on the slightly creamier side with a carbonation level that is a b it on the higher side. The creaminess allows all the hop flavors of the brew a chance to linger on the tongue, while the carbonation level makes it easier drinking and more refreshing. Overall – A quite tasty brew. It’s on the hoppier side, but balanced quite nicely by the sweeter fruit, caramel, and more malty flavors of the brew. Its well know for a good reason; its quite a good moderate strength IPA.

A very well represented bitter ale. Dark in appearance with a an an eggshell coloured head. Creamy on the palate. Smells of bitterness. Tastes bitter. Looks aggressively bitter, it is the menace it claims to be.

Bottle At Barely Legal Tasting Room . Pours dark copper/ redbrown . Good white head . Smell is weak , bit of old-ale aspects, bit of bitterness . Taste is bitter, some old-ale aspects again . Bitter aftertaste . best to be descibed as an english bitter, with some old-ale maltyness . Nice

Just back from France where I’ve been drinking lots of Belgian beer, so on my return I really fancied something like a classic English ale. And this is something like a classic English ale. It looks the part; reddy brown with a really good off- white head leaving lacing all the way down. Medium bodied, slightly creamy - could have been pulled from the cask in a small village pub, but was instead imported from San Diego by my lovely local beer shop. Not much aroma. Main flavour is bitterness at the beginning, followed by a bitter middle section and a bitter finish. Beneath that - malt, caramel, grapefruit, and more buried under the bitterness. If this had just been pulled in an English village pub, I’d have another, even if only to try and pick out the other flavours lurking beneath the, did I mention, bitterness. And buried beneath the hype - a very good beer.

22oz bottle. Cloudy deep red with a frothy off-white head. Flavors are bread, caramel, sugar, resinous hops, pine, grapefruit and toasted malts with earthy and nutty notes. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, oily texture.

Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale claims you are not going to like this beer. I wouldn’t go that far, but it isn’t great either. Some fresh hop aroma coming from a dark pour with a thinner head. Taste is nicely balanced with strong malt and some simple hop character. There is a bit of an alcohol bite mixed with a bit of bitterness on the finish. Arrogant Bastard is not too bad for an underachiever - poor bastard. :)
