Draft. A red-brown beer with a thin light tan head. The aroma has notes of caramel and malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of toffee combined with lighter notes of spices and butterscotch.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of dry roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, cardboard, toast. Flavor of caramel, hops, brown sugar, chocolate, malt, and molasses. Sweet, smoky, light bodied, and well-balanced. I didn’t try a lot of brown ales on my New Zealand trip, but this was a nice example of the style.

Sampled on tap at the brewpub in Arrowtown. Dark tawny amber, beautiful cigar box aroma with underlying sultana sweetness. Flavours of chocolate, caramel, and hints of dark fruits. Quite smoky. Lighter mouthfeel but big flavours. Medium bitter finish. Delicious!

Cloudy russet in colour with aromatic notes of caramalt, a whiff of chocolate and dry barley. Flavous of molasses, biscuits, leather and even a touch of Jamaica rum. A very soft finish as if it sighed and walked out the door. Worth going back for seconds.
