2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 eeez (38) - Thatcham, Berkshire, ENGLAND - APR 4, 2012
Pours very dark red, no head, minimal carbonation. Aroma is of standard stout roasted malts and little else. Mouthfeel is very thin with typical roasted malts and a hint of the titular berries. Finish is largely sweet. Overall a very watery porter (not a stout by any imagination) lacking balance and depth.

Cask at the Bricklayers Arms, Putney, 7th Nov 2010. Black with a line of head. Reasonably rich and smooth with good blackcurrant flavours. Some comes through on the nose but there’s a bit of flat Coke about it. Very very sweet for a stout.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 chriso (7063) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 11, 2011
Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival on 27 April 2011. Very dark ruby colour. Hard on the heels of the rather OTT Art Brew Orange IPA comes another rather OTT beer. Huge blackcurrant aroma. There are some roasty notes on the palate but it’s mainly more blackcurrant. Maybe could have done with being a bigger stout underneath to balance out all that blackcurrant but, OTT or not, I found this a very tasty and enjoyable beer. And Art Brew certainly can’t be accused of being stingy with the additives.

Cask gravity at Reading BF 2011. Smells of blackcurrant. Like Ribena and blackcurrant Angel Delight. Blackcurrant vanilla in mouth. Quite pleasant but not sure where the fruit has cone from. Fine if fruitily odd

On gravity at the Bree Louise, London 17/3/2011. Near black in colour with a slight,off-white head. Fruity, blackcurrant aroma with some roasted malts. Sweetish flavour, with plenty more blackcurrants, cereal malts and a touch of ash in the finish. Very good.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (4091) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 18, 2011
Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Dark, clearish brown pour with a light film. Sweet, currant and grape nose. Definite blackcurrant character in the flavor, nice and sweet, with modest roasty malts. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. More roast, though mild, in the finish, with some sugars and lingering fruit notes. A really interesting, tasty and dynamic beer.

Gravity cask at the Birmingham beer fest. Poured very dark brown with a medium head. Aroma was chocolate, roasted malt with some blackcurrant coming through at the end. Taste was blackcurrant throughout with lots of roasted malt at the end. Bit sweet in the finish.
