Cask, handpump at The Hope and Anchor, Bristol, 28.01.12 Clear gold in colour, though with a pub that is primarily lit by candlelight I may be a little off with this description, but it looks great. There is a buzzy spiciness in the mouth, touch of ginger, quite dry, bitter pithiness starting to show, some dustiness, likeable. A7 A5 T7 P4 Ov13 3.6

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol, 13/01/2011. Clear gold with a slight white head. Citrus, lemony aroma with grassy hops and biscuity malts. Flavour had more citrus, creamy malts and a bitter finish with a vague suggestion of pine. Good stuff.

A Mes rate. Cask at the Southampton. Mid gold colour with a short lived white head. A little basic really. Good bitterness, plenty of earth. Nicely citric giving some good lemony notes. It’s good and certainly well balanced I’m just feeling rather underwhelmed. I think I’m being too influenced by the name. I can’t help but expect big hops, what I get is something much straight forward. If it was called Art Brew Bitter, I’d have been really impressed. As it is, I’m left wanting HOPS! Name fail, I’m fickle.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 20th July 2010. Pale amber with thin diminishing whitish head. Don’t be fooled by the malty aroma as a hop kick strikes like a bolt of bitter lightning across the tastebuds.. Cuttingly bitter with vegetable notes, mainly broad beans; dry mouthfeel and long lasting severe bitterness. An intense pint, packing a real punch!

Hand pulled at the Court House, Dudley. Good, hard-faced hops - quite metallic. Sour syrup. Malty cracker finish. Pretty good, although I didn’t like the finish.

Cask, Leicester 2010. Headless yellow. Hop greenery and slight softening citrus aroma. Flavour disappointing, with none of the expected NZ hop aromatics coming across; astringent, squeezed hop bitterness with little to round it out; bitter nut husk malts, parsnips and ice cream, grapefruit, paracetemol. Too much, and not enough.
