Cask (Rake, London) (my notes say ’harvest’ rather than ’tempest’, but that might have been chinese whispers)
6 Simple roasty aroma, unexceptional but welcome in a beer of this depth of colour.
4 Deep reddish brown.
6 Rich roasty chocolaty taste.
4 Full rich palate, with a lingering roast, maybe slightly drying.
13 Certainly very pleasant, not no wows for me. Not really a stout IMHO. (I didn’t note how I’d better characterise it.)

Ungstrup (23917) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 2, 2011
Cask at Southampton Arms, London. A red-brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is sweet malty with light notes of chocolate and roasted malt, leading to a dry nutty finish.

Leighton (4091) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 29, 2011
Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Pours a dark, ruby-brown with a very mild film. Sweet aroma with roasty malts, tobacco and caramel. Pretty standard flavor, not overly roasty, sweet with straight sugar, some minerality, slightly astringent bitterness. Light to medium in body with very fine carbonation. Finishes a bit sweet and I need to struggle to pick up the charred, roasted malts. If there was a bit more burnt wood or something I would like this better. As it is I like the beer but the roastiness/sweetness mix seems tipped in favor of sweetness. Good stuff, could be better.

Cask @ Royal Oak. Pitch black with light frothy head. Big asphalt aroma is rich and inky. Soft palate. Lovely flavors! Like an impy but light! Inky, iodine. Black licorice is lovely here--all united, cohesive, and tasty.
