[Cask at Monk’s Retreat, Reading] Amber, slight loose off-white head. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Slight woodiness up front, then soft citric fruits, caramel and a mildly bitter finish. Pleasantly easy drinking stuff, but rather bland and boring for an ESB.

Cask conditioned handpump Prince Albert Brighton. A brown beer with an off-white head and lacing. A chewy fruity malty beer. Hints of citrus hopping in the mouth. Sadly served too warm and became a tad sickly. Bready notes. Passable.

A Mes rate. Cask handpull from Baker Street ’Sporks.
Red copper with a thin off white head. Fruity aroma with lots of caramel malt. Nutty flavour with a reasonable hit of bitterness in the finish. A little thin in the mouth. Really, that’s it.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2008 Deep honey gold, almost bronze in colour; chocolate malts in clear evidence on the nose, reflected in the remarkable palate - flavour starts off with a really rich, velvety chocolatiness, before giving way to what can only be described as peanuts! My companions all concluded that this is as near to Snickers in a glass as you’re likely to get. Well worth a look! Sampled at Charters Beer Festival, Peterborough May 2008
