Cask - The Bell Hotel (JDW), Norwich. Small beige head with good retention, creamy & slightly lacy. An initially murky but clearing deep mahogany coloured body. Good roast, coffee & dark malt profile. Some milkiness on the nose. Dark fruits come through on the tongue. Slightly dusty and muddy on the palate. A robust medium body, lingering ashy, malty bitterness, soft mouthfeel.
2.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 justm (163) - Essex, ENGLAND - FEB 20, 2012
Cask at the Blue Boar, Billericay. Pours a lovely chestnut / dark ruby red with an inviting bubbly beige head. Biscuity malt and dark fruits on the nose with a little tart sourness in the background immediately after pouring. Quite strong and assertive on the palate. A woody bitterness fills the mouth disolving into a watery gap in taste. Some plummy fruit flavours then become apparent. Further down the glass, toffee apple flavours and aroma dominate. A little dark chocolate and a hint of black cherry are hiding in the smooth aftertaste.

Cask, The Francis Newton, Sheffield, UK. Dark chestnut brown, long lasting tan head. Sweet caramel aroma, brown sugar and a slight metallic background. Very sweet, more brown sugar, then the hops kick in and start to balance things out slightly. Medium length finish. Perhaps some more hops could balance it further?

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - SEP 30, 2011
First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 2007. Cask, gravity dispense. Dark copper red in colour with a thin loose white head. Fruity malt evident in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malts deliver a robust digestive malt base with crystal malts in there. Slight redcurrant fruit with dry woody notes merging well with the hop resins in the aftertaste. Dry hoppy finish. A good session bitter.
