Pour on tap at the brewery, clear orange pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of earth, grass, florals and slight peppery spice, hints of grapefruit but restrained, hints of caramel and toffee as well. Taste is much the same, but more dominated by the malts, hints of grapefruit and citrus as well as an earthy pepper, caramel and toffee through the rest with a slightly bitter finish.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 onceblind (1615) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAR 23, 2012
Clear Light amber, with a nose full of pine and light caramel. Flavor is much the same with piney resin with some toasty caramel and more hoppy bitterness. Not too keen on how hoppy bitter the flavor is.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 3fourths (6385) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAR 18, 2012
draft. burnt orange body with a sand colored head. faint vegetable and juice mixture. literally tastes like some carrot, ginger, turnip and kale were blended with navel oranges, burnt / caramelized pine sap and a little bit of grapefruit. medium body, a bit sugary / granulated / crunchy with medium-light acid and hop bitterness becoming more coarse as it travels across tongue and palate. overall a fairly simple rendition, and though free of major defects, becomes a little too caramel malt-heavy and candy-like (lemon and pine sap flavored gum drops).
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mlunger12 (519) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 5, 2012
On tap at Arvada Beer. Pours actually very nice with great head retention. Very earthy aroma. A hit of grapefruit through the body. Finishes very dry with dirty feel to it. A lack of balance really does this one in.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 notalush (3740) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 16, 2012
Tap at ABC - clear light copper pour - on the malty end of the spectrum for an IPA, but the malts are mostly cleanly sweet crystal and pale, with just a touch of a caramel note - some toasty, bready character through the middle - finishes with a lightly spicy, woody, peppery hop note - certainly for the fans of maltose ipas, but bitter enough to satisfy the hophead - well done.
